After a bike fitting and safety briefing, it’s time for our first ride through Mallorca’s wine region. We’ll pass vineyards and villages en route to a fun lunch of tapas, then descend to the caves of Campanet. Here, we head into the belly of the earth, entering an underground world of stalactites and stalagmites, secret chambers, and rock formations that have been taking shape for over 10 million years. Afterwards, catch a ride in the van or keep cycling towards Pollença, where our beachfront hotel has hosted famous guests including F. Scott Fitzgerald, Grace Kelly, and Winston Churchill. Spend some downtime in the swimming pool or spa before an easy dinner right on hotel grounds. For a little more adventure, an optional kayak excursion can be arranged along the wild coastline. Either way, there will be time for an afternoon of lounging on the beach or by the pool. DAY 3 Mallorca’s Ancient History After breakfast, we’ll hop on our bikes and cycle Mallorca’s tranquil country roads to Alcúdia. Formerly known as Pollentia, this port town served as the island’s ancient Roman capital beginning in 123 BC. There are plenty of ruins to explore, plus a museum that tells the story of Pollentia’s past—from Moorish invasion to plundering pirates. Even our lunch at a Roman-themed restaurant is a nod to the town’s historic roots. After lunch, choose to transfer to El Rancho Grande for an optional horseback ride on the scenic Son Serra de Marina beach. If you prefer, skip the saddle and head straight back to the hotel, or explore the Port of Pollença and dine at your leisure in town. Visit his apartment and see the original piano where he sounded out some of the most familiar opuses in the canon of classical music. Find your own rhythm as we start today’s coastal ride to the town of Sóller—one of the island’s prettiest places. We'll drop by to visit our friend Joan and taste the sunny flavors of the fresh, organic citrus he grows, then finish our ride to Port de Sóller. After lunch on a terrace overlooking the marina, we’ll board a motorboat and tour the coastline of the Tramuntana Mountains, mooring at a secluded cove for the chance to swim or snorkel in the Mediterranean. If you’re up for a little more activity, hike uphill to our lovely hotel in Cala Deià (or catch a ride in the van). Tonight, dine on the terrace at La Residencia’s charming El Olivo restaurant, or head into the village for a meal of simple local seafood. DAY 5 Tapas, Wine, and Trains For breakfast, taste the ensaïmada pastries unique to Mallorca, or stick with fresh fruit and eggs cooked to order. Fueled for the day’s ride, we’ll take a van to the southern flank of the mountains and start spinning on remote roads lined with carob, olive, and almond trees. Pedal into the vine- clad region of Binissalem where we’ll visit one of Mallorca’s most famous boutique wineries to learn about the region’s viticulture. Enjoy a light tapas lunch before we transfer to the village of Bunyola. All aboard! We’ll take a ride on a 100-year-old electric train, winding through hand-hewn tunnels and alongside citrus groves before pulling into the center of Sóller. Enjoy an afternoon exploring this enchanting town, whether you stop for gelato or browse boutiques for souvenirs.
