Despite our U/18's and 2ND Grade sides LEO BROWNE finishing the season as minor premiers, both President - PHAFC teams were unable to win on the "Big Day". Our U/18's, after leading for almost the whole game and looking the better team, went down by a solitary point. During the year our 2ND Grade Coach, Chris Yard, played his 250TH senior game with PENNANT HILLS and now holds the club record for senior games played. Anthony Brawn became the Fifth Pennant Hills player to reach 200 senior games for the club and from all accounts has his sights set on overtaking Chris Yard's record. Our U/18's full forward Mathew (King) Carey broke the club record for most goals kicked in a season with 133 goals and was the U/18 competition leading goal kicker. Our 1ST Grade full forward, Laine Spencer, was the 1ST Grade competitions leading goal kicker. Anthony Brawn, Peter Carey, Barnaby Howarth, Alex Huggins and Ryan Talbot were all selected in the Sydney Representative Team with Barnaby and Ryan going on to represent NSW. Justin Barratt, Kieren Jack and Andrew Hodgson, three of our younger 1st Grade Players, were all selected to represent the NSW U/18 team at the annual carnival for the U/18 national competition. I congratulate all these players on their special achievements during the 2004 season. The NSW/ACT AFL had for a number of years supported Sydney Clubs with money and grants to assist clubs with administration, unfortunately, this financial assistance was not available to Sydney clubs for the 2004 season. Rotary International President Ron Burton has plenty of friends, but he’ll need them if his attempt at a unique Sydney world record is to be achieved in the leadup to the Sydney Convention this year. Rotarians from all over the world will be among the 20,000 or so delegates to the International Convention, but before it begins, they will have the chance to be part of a spectacular world record currently held by none other than Oprah Winfrey herself. In doing so, those same Rotarians will be supporting an innovative fundraising effort in aid of The Rotary Foundation’s polio eradication campaign. “The challenge is there for Rotarians attending their International Convention to set new world records for the number of flags from different nations on the bridge at one time, and for the number of people on the bridge at one time,” said the CEO of convention partner Bridgeclimb, Todd BridgeClimb Public Relations Executive Charli Beale, RDU Executive Director Bob Aitken and RDU Digital Production and Coates.
