Many tunnel engineering accidents are generally caused by water softening tuff of high porosity. Experimental and theoretical analytical methods, including rock ultrasonic testing, X-ray diffraction (XRD), microscopic observation, uniaxial compression test, and scanning electron microscope (SEM), are employed to analyze the physicomechanical properties of tuff in Mila Mountain tunnel under dry and saturated conditions. +en, the mechanism of tuff softening in water is explained. Finally, the statistical damage constitutive model of tuff is established. It was revealed that the tuff compositions were dominated by quartz and clay minerals accounting for more than 90%, and clay minerals, anhydrite, and pyrite were mainly soluble minerals. -

Niyang River is the second largest tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo River on the Tibetan Plateau. To establish the controlling factors of water quality in the river basin, this paper explores the hydro-chemical features of the major ions in the river water, and evaluates the water quality and health risk of trace elements. Multiple advanced technical instruments were adopted for our exploration including, the principal component analysis (PCA) and Water Quality Index (WQI). The hydro-chemical results show that the major ions in the river mainly originate from the weathering of rocks, with Ca-Mg-HCO3 being the dominant type of hydro-chemical facies. Through PCA-based water quality assessment, we learned that the trace elements of Tl, Hg, Cd, Mo, Ti, U, As, Cr, Pb, Rb, Li, Sr, Ba, Fe and Al mostly come from rock weathering and groundwater leaching, while Cu, Zn and Mn are mainly attributable to natural and human sources. -

Tibet, like most regions of the Himalayas, is divided into several distinct terrains and climates. Tibet is famous with the name of ‘Roof of the World’ and always in the media because of political crises. The Tibetan Plateau is also known as the Qinghai-Tibetan (Qingzang) Plateau is a vast, elevated plateau in Central Asia or East Asia covering most of the Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province in western China, as well as part of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir. This paper will give a brief account about the physiographic divisions, climate, drainage system, vegetation, soils etc. of Tibet. Tibet is Bordered India, Bhutan, Nepal and Sikkim to the south and the west, Yunan Province to the southeast, Sichuan Province to the east with Qinghai Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to the north, Tibet is the second largest region in China (after Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region), occupying a total area of over 1,200,000 sq m (463,320 sq miles), at an average altitude of more than 4,000m (13,123 ft). This paper is based on the review of literature and various maps are constructed by using Arc View GIS version 10. -

TIBET INSIGHT, 15-30 APRIL 2019 1 TAR NEWS Convocation ceremony of Doctorate monks held in Jokhang April 24, 2019 Convocation ceremony of 12 doctorate monks in Buddhist Philosophy was held on April 26, at Jokhang temple in Lhasa. The ceremony was chaired by Meng Xiaolin, Vice Chairman of TAR, who awarded the monks with ‘gift money’. Zhukhang Thupten Khedup, Vice Chairman of TAR CPPCC and President of the Tibet Branch of the Chinese Buddhist Association who is also Head of Tibetan Buddhist Academy and Director of the Appraisal Committee, presented the monks their degree certificates. The Annual pre-degree test was reportedly conducted last year at Sera monastery and Phuntsok Tendar from Gadan Monastery won the first prize. Meeting held to strengthen ‘overall governance’ of Tibet April 25, 2019 On April 25, TAR Party Secretary Wu Yingjie convened a meeting of all officials of the TAR Party Committee to study the ‘important speeches’ of General Secretary Xi Jinping since the 19th Party Congress and implement the spirit of the Sixth Tibet Forum held in Beijing from August 24-25, 2015. The Forum, presided over by Xi Jinping, spoke of promotion of social and economic development in Tibet. It also stressed that Tibet “has entered ‘a critical stage’ toward fulfilling the country's goal of building a moderately prosperous society in a comprehensive way” and that special financial, tax and investment policies will continue to be in place in the future in order to develop social cohesion, stability and unity. Moreover, Fish the THg levels in fish had significantly positive correlations with the length (r = 0.316, The Tibetan Plateau p < 0.05, n = 60) and weight (r = 0.271, p < 0.05, n = 60) of fish. -
