M < H N M @ O P M I O J M M < > A DD I < G In 2007 the Rams earned their second trip to the NAIA Region VI tournament in the last three seasons. At 4-2-1 in conference play, they earned the second seed in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament and reached the title match to earn a regional bid.

The Rams started the season hot. Thanks to two goals from Theo Nabassi in the season opener the Rams prevailed 3-2 over Manhattan Christian with just 15 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. Nabassi scored the Rams lone goal in a 2-1 over- time loss to Oklahoma City and then recorded assists in the follow- ing two contests as the Rams got off to a 3-1 start.

In an eight day stretch midway through the season, the Rams strug- gled to an 0-3-1 record. However, they rebounded to record three straight conference wins, the last coming at defending champion Huston-Tillotson and sealing the second seed in the conference tournament.

With that second seed came a first-round bye. In the semifinals, the Rams met with Huston-Tillotson once again. Goalkeeper Joakim Soderbaum put the team on his shoulders with an amazing 23 save performance that sent the match to a shootout. in the shootout, Soderbaum stopped two more shots to advance to the final. In that final, Soderbaum shutout the top-seed, UT-Brownsville for 110 min- utes. However, the Scorpions prevailed in the shootout to break a 0-0 tie.

Seven Rams earned All-Conference honors. Soderbaum, Nabassi, and seniors Eddie Hernandez, Seth Mullins, and Ekene Onuoha were all selected to the 1st-team. Sophomore Jorge Pineda and freshman Leo Cubrillo were 2nd-team selections.

Mullins led the conference with seven assists, while Soderbaum led the way with 104 saves.

After the conference tournament, the Rams had to turn around and face UT-Brownville again in the Regoin VI tournament. The Scorpions prevailed 5-0 in that contest. www.ramsports.net 17 2007 Season Review
