FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Ed Krajewski [email protected] DARTMOUTH & UNION EFFORTS WARRANT BRAGGING RIGHTS ALBANY, NY -- Seven out of the 10 ECAC Hockey teams that were in action last weekend posted victories earning. points. Both Quinnipiac and Union added to their impressive unbeaten streaks and three teams -- Clarkson (10th), Quinnipiac (12th), and Princeton (18th) -- are currently ranked in the nation- al polls. Dartmouth improved its overall record against opponents this season to 3-0 by posting wins over Boston U. 3-2, and intra-state rival No. 7 ranked New Hampshire 5-3. Senior forward J.T. Wyman was the hero for the Big Green as he netted the game winner with less than two minutes to play in the contest as the Big Green defeated Boston U. for the first time since 1982. Dartmouth would not have a letdown from this significant victory, as sen- ior netminder M ike Devine recorded a career-high 54 saves in an upset win over New Hampshire to capture the RiverStone Trophy. Devine was named the RiverStone Player of the Game and also was awarded with ECAC Hockey Goaltender-of-the-Week honors for his feats. Union earned bragging rights from the annual “Route 7 Rivalry”by posting a weekend sweep over Capital District rival Rensselaer this weekend. On Friday, the Dutchmen outshot the Engineers 43-22 en route to hard fought 2-1 victory at Messa Rink. Union improved its overall home record to 7-1-3 with the win. It was pretty much the same story the following night at RPI as the Dutchmen scored two goals in the first period, including one by freshman for- ward Stephane Boileau, which proved to be the game-winner. Boileau was named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for his weekend performance. Union is riding a six-game winning streak, which is currently tied for second in the nation. Another hot team moving its way up in the national polls is No. 12-ranked Quinnipiac. The Bobcats RECENT RESULTS improved their record to 14-5-3 with a 5-2 non-conference win at Holy Cross. Junior netminder Bud Tuesday, January 15: Fisher stopped 18 of 20 shots, improving his personal record to 7-2-2 overall. *Dartmouth 3 at Boston U. 2 Yale enjoyed a taste of “Southern hospitality” as sophomore netminder Billy Blase stopped 30 of 32 Friday, January 18: shots to hold off Alabama-Huntsville 3-2 Friday. On Saturday the same two teams would battle to a 3-2 *At Union 2, Rensselaer 1 score again, but this time the Bulldogs would not come out on top. Sophomore forward *Clarkson 1 at Colgate 1 (ot) would net his team-leading 10th goal of the season, but it would not be enough. *At Cornell 3, St. Lawrence 1 Brown came back to tie the game twice and then take a 3-2 lead, but could not hold-on, ultimately Yale 3 at Ala.-Huntsville 2 dropping a 4-3 contest to Merrimack. Forwards Ryan Garbutt (1-1-2) and Jeff Prough (0-2-2) turned-in Saturday, January 19: a multiple point effort for the Bears. Quinnipiac 5 at Holy Cross 2 No. 10-ranked Clarkson took over the familiar top spot in the league standings earning three points *Union 4 at Rensselaer 1 with a 1-1 overtime tie at Colgate and a 4-2 victory at Cornell. Colgate, in addition to the tie, would also *At Colgate 4, St. Lawrence 1 earn three points over the weekend from stopping St. Lawrence 4-1 Saturday. ^Dartmouth 5 vs New Hampshire 3 St. Lawrence’s hot play was cooled, suffering two defeats over the weekend.
