Christ cleanses the physical temple in Director of Facilities and Maintenance Jerusalem of all that is not leading people to God. We ourselves must [email protected] be cleansed of all that does not lead us to God. The first reading today Ken Danchik is from the Book of Exodus and gives us the commandments of the Associate Organist Lord. Knowing the commandments of the Lord and striving to live our [email protected] lives by these commandments is one of the ways of being cleansed for Beverly Farinelli God. We cannot achieve our own , but we can strive to Wedding Coordinator cooperate with what God is asking of us and has asked of His People [email protected] throughout the ages. The Book of Exodus makes it clear that God Don Fellows wants His People for Himself and is jealous in His love for us. This is a Director of Music and Organist good jealousy that leads us to salvation and assures us that God is [email protected] always there striving to love us and draw us to Himself. Lent is a Erica Gamerro wonderful time to reflect on our own responses to God’s love. First, we Pastoral Associate can always ask ourselves: Do I really believe that God loves me, just as I [email protected] am right now? Do I believe that God is my ally in seeking to cleanse my Eileen Lancos life of all that impedes my relationship with God? Do I really trust the Sacristan love of this God, who never wants to destroy me but who always wants Jean Malek me to be for Him? Parish Secretary [email protected] The second reading is from the First Letter to the Corinthians. Saint Christina McCann Paul is clear that he proclaims Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Wedding Coordinator Jews and foolishness to Gentiles. We can imagine how odd it must have [email protected] sounded to people of the time of Saint Paul to say that a Savior had Mike Pittek actually come and was crucified – but that the Crucified One was and is Office Manager God! Even today people find it very difficult to believe that Jesus is Lord [email protected] and God. We can think of an Easter song that proclaims Christ is risen Terri Taormina from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the Director for Religious Education tombs bestowing life! That is the heart of our Christian proclamation. [email protected] We must believe that Jesus is fully human and fully God, that Jesus lived Ted Wojcik among us, that Jesus was crucified for us – and yes, Jesus rose from the Sacristan dead for us. Over and over, we return to the incredibly Good News: Greg Zigray Christ rose from the dead! Christ is risen! He died for us, but He rose Business Manager for us as well, to show us that there is another life and that there is life [email protected] after death and that we are all invited to share in this Divine Life.

Today’s section of the Gospel of Saint John reflects on the cleansing of the temple and shows us Jesus telling those who doubt Him: “Destroy QUOTES OF THE WEEK this temple and I shall raise it up in three days.” Those around Him did not understand until after the Resurrection. THE BULLETIN is the lifeline to our parish and is the primary means of communication. Please take time to read the bulletin in its entirety. One parishioner reminded me recently of how important it is for the bulletin to be delivered to the shut-ins and elderly of our parish and how much it means to them. If you know of anyone in your apartment building or neighborhood who cannot make it to Church on Sunday, please consider taking them a bulletin so they that they can be connected to the life our parish. Many people have thanked me for all that is in the bulletin because it keeps them connected with all that is happening and helps them to learn more about their faith as well. Be a good Samaritan and bring a bulletin to someone close by who cannot make it to Mass! Share it with your family members. You will bring a great deal of happiness and joy to their lives and perhaps help someone else to grow more deeply in faith. You can access the bulletin online as well.

PARISH SHARE 2021. The letters and pledge cards for Parish Share 2021 have gone out and the members of our parish should be receiving them this week or next. Our parish goal for 2021 is $105,477 ($1,229 less than last year’s goal). Please help us to be successful in this year’s campaign. This is an opportunity for each of us as members of the Church to make an annual gift to help both Bishop Zubik and the Diocese in the many ministries that benefit our parishes and so many others in the larger Church, as well as to help our own parish family. I am asking each of you to consider helping us in this important effort. As good stewards of all that God has blessed us with, Parish Share offers us an opportunity to use our financial blessings to help the Church in its many ministries that touch the lives of so many people with the love and mercy of God. Anything over and above our goal remains as added income to our parish so it is very important that we all contribute and help make this campaign a success. Thank you for your support and for your generosity. God bless you.

WEEKLY LENTEN BULLETIN INSERT. We are providing you a weekly Lenten insert in our bulletin that is a gift for this Lenten season. Please use it to help make the most of this Lenten season. It provides insights into the Scriptures, offers prayers, highlights the Church’s teaching on Lenten practices, and invites our families to reflect on the meaning of Lent and to pray together. Please use it with your family.

PASSING FROM DEATH TO NEW LIFE. We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to the families of those who were buried from our parish recently. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS are a beautiful devotion that invites us to walk the Way of the Cross with Jesus. Stations of the Cross will be celebrated during the Lenten season at the Cathedral on Wednesdays at 12:45 pm (following the 12:05 Mass) and on Friday evenings at 7:00 pm (with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction). I encourage everyone to come and pray with us, to bring your family and friends, and walk the Way of the Cross with our Lord.

A REMINDER THAT DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS NEXT SUNDAY, MARCH 14. Remember to turn your clocks AHEAD (Spring Ahead!) one hour before going to bed on Saturday evening so you won’t be late for Mass on Sunday!

BLESSED PALMS are sacramentals. They cannot be thrown away but must be discarded with reverence and care. The Church gathers old palms and burns them and uses the ashes for Ash Wednesday. If you have any old palm at home, you are invited to place it on the tables in the back of the Cathedral or Saint Rosalia and we will dispose of it in accordance with the norms of the Church.

PRAYERS FOR THE SICK. We are keeping in our prayers all the sick of our parish and especially those who have been hospitalized recently. We pray especially for THAO DINH and MARIE GRAY.

SAINT OF THE WEEK. On March 9 we celebrate the Feast of SAINT FRANCES OF ROME. Frances had desired to become a but ended up living 40 happy years as a married woman. She and her husband shared a passion for their Catholic faith, raising four children and creating a home filled with love and tenderness. She had a desire to serve the poor and often went out into the streets of Rome to tend the sick and suffering. It was said that Frances made everyone feel like a best friend and thus attracted many people, especially young women who idealized her. She formed this group into the of Mary, a group that took religious vows and cared for the sick. When her husband died and her children were raised, Frances joined the oblates and became their . She died in Rome in 1440. She is an example of the call for married couples to create a home filled with faith and love for God above all, a faith that calls us out of ourselves to care for the needs of others. HEARING LOOP PROJECT. The hearing loop has been installed and is functional in the Cathedral itself and in the Cathedral Social Hall. Hearing loop technology works in sync with hearing aids that have a T-coil. Hearing loops allow people who wear hearing aids to directly receive the sound from the PA system in their own hearing aids without having to pick up a separate listening device. If you wear hearing instruments you will need to find out if your hearing aids have the wireless receiver called a T-coil or Telecoil in order to hear better with the hearing loops in our facilities. The T-coil program is accessed by pushing a button on a hearing aid. This T-coil program has to be activated by your audiologist. Talk to your audiologist to find out if your instruments can have both a T (no background noise pick up) and an MT program (blended micro-phone and T-coil program). We hope to provide some additional information sessions for those interested at some point when we are able to gather together. This project will be a significant help to those with hearing impairments enabling them to become more active participants in the Mass and other parish activities.

PRO-LIFE CORNER IN HIS JANUARY 28 HOMILY, JOSEPH NAUMANN, the pro-life chairman for the United States Conference of Bishops said: “We must not yield to discouragement, much less despair. We must also not indulge in anger or attacking those who disagree with us. Our weapons to defeat the culture of death are not bricks, guns, or Molotov cocktails, but prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Catholics must fast and pray for President Biden to have a change of heart on his support for legal abortion. We must pray and fast that the president will cease attempting to confuse people about Catholic teaching by trampling on the sanctity of human life while presenting himself as a devout Catholic. Pray, fast, and give alms as we work for conversion of hearts.”

©LPi
