Unintentional Drug- and -Related Intoxication Deaths* in Maryland

Preliminary data update through 1st quarter 2019

This report contains counts of unintentional drug- and alcohol-related intoxication deaths* occurring in Maryland through the 1st quarter of 2019, the most recent period for which preliminary data are available. Counts are also shown for the same period of 2007-2018 to allow for review of trends over time. Counts for 2018 and 2019 are not complete and are subject to change.

Since an intoxication death may involve more than one substance, counts of deaths related to specific substances do not sum to the total number of deaths. *Deaths resulting from recent ingestion or exposure to alcohol or other types of drugs, including heroin, prescription , prescribed and illicit forms of fentanyl (including carfentanil), , , phencyclidine (PCP), methamphetamines and other prescribed and unprescribed drugs.
