The Covid-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. People with the Covid-19 virus infection will experience mild to moderate symptoms including respiratory illness. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Most of the patients recover without requiring special treatment. No cure is available for Covid-19. Antibiotics aren't much effective against viral infections such as Covid-19. Researchers are testing a variety of possible ways for the new drug discovery and repurposing existing drugs. The FDA has approved the antiviral drug remdesivir to treat Covid-19 in hospitalized adults and children who are of age 12 and older. The FDA has also granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the rheumatoid arthritis drug baricitinib to treat Covid-19 in some cases as it works against Covid-19 by reducing inflammation and having antiviral activity. It may be used in combination with remdesivir in people who are on mechanical ventilators or need supplemental oxygen.
