Despite sending a small contingent of just 11 athletes to Detroit for the meet, Head Coach Fred Dwyer’s squad came home with the College’s first national title in any sport. Mike Keogh, a 1972 Olympian, got the Jaspers on the board with a victory in the two-mile run, then Ken McBryde, the only field-event athlete entered, took third place in the triple jump. Day Two of the meet began with a world record, as Manhattan’s quartet of John Lovett, Ray Johnson, Joe Savage and Tony Colon established a new mark of 9:43.8 in the distance medley relay. Cliff Bruce added three points with a third-place showing in the 1000 yards, giving the Jaspers a total of 18 points with several events left. However, Manhattan could only sit and watch, as the Jaspers didn’t have any remaining entries. Nobody was able to catch Manhattan, though. Kansas, Kent State and UTEP tallied 12 points apiece to finish in a three-way tie for second. For their part in winning the National Championship, seven Jaspers were named All- American.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE World Olympians Association appoints 2 new EXCO members Joël Bouzou OLY, WOA President, appoints Janet Evans OLY and Chantal Brunner OLY to Executive Committee to add extra competencies Lausanne, Switzerland: 2 March 2021 World Olympians Association (WOA) President, Joël Bouzou OLY, has today confirmed the appointment of Chantal Brunner OLY (New Zealand) and Janet Evans OLY (USA) as new WOA Executive Committee (EXCO) Members. The appointments bring the total number of EXCO Members to 20 and strengthens WOA’s commitment to diversity and equality following the appointments of Mikako Kotani OLY (Japan) and Pernilla Wiberg OLY (Sweden) as Vice-Presidents; as well as the appointment of an equal number of male and female representatives from all five continents as mandated by the WOA Constitution. Chantal Brunner OLY, a two-time Olympian, re-joins WOA’s EXCO after a successful four years as a continental representative of the Oceania National Olympians Associations. A respected solicitor in international corporate and commercial law, Chantal represented New Zealand in Long Jump at the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. She is also on the IOC’s Entourage Commission and the Board of the International Testing Agency. Janet Evans OLY, is a four-time Olympic gold medal winner and former world record holder in Swimming and is joining WOA’s EXCO for the first time. She represented the United States at the Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Janet is currently the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games Chief Athlete Officer after playing a crucial role as Vice-Chair of Los Angeles’ successful bid to host the 2028 Olympic Games.

Chaired by President Joël Bouzou OLY, the inaugural meeting of the WOA Executive Committee for 2021-2024 committed to reviewing WOA’s 2021-2024 Strategic Plan and further consultation with the global National Olympians Association (NOA) community. The Executive Committee will also explore launching OLY Day which will celebrate the day of the Olympic Opening Ceremony by signing up National Olympians Associations and individual Olympians to run Service to Society programmes that spread the Olympic values and benefit their communities.
