The aim of the study is to gather data on the retailer segment of the aquaculture value chain in Egypt, namely on the employment and market conditions of the women fish retailers in the five target governorates. In addition, this study provides a case study in Minya and Fayoum of the current income levels and standards of living of this target group. Finally, the study aims to identify the major problems and obstacles facing these women retailers and suggest some relevant interventions. One of these roles is being the sole source of water for the nomads’ communities in the Western Desert. For this role to be sustainable, careful and scientifically based plans for groundwater withdrawal should be developed. This research was initiated with the objective of mitigating the excessive drawdowns by applying rotational groundwater withdrawal. El Kharga Oases was chosen to be studied because it mainly depends on groundwater as the primary source for water and are suffering from continuous increase in groundwater drawdowns due the excessive groundwater withdrawal, so it was necessary to study the aquifer of El Kharga Oases to find a solution to this problem that is accepted from stakeholders. In this study a numerical groundwater model was constructed to evaluate the effect of switching to rotational groundwater withdrawal on mitigating excessive drawdowns. In this regard, a MODFLOW package Visual MODFLOW 4.2 was utilized to simulate the proposed rotational withdrawal policy. The model was calibrated for steady state flow conditions with acceptable accuracy; the calibrated model has been run under the rotational withdrawal policy for 3 years to predict the rate of change in groundwater drawdowns. The results show sustainable recovery of groundwater levels throughout the prediction run period.

Although a vast array of mammals, and a selection of fish, amphibians and reptiles are represented in Old World rock art, there are fewer am- phibians and reptiles, and virtually no insects. A very unusual example of what have tentatively been identified as insects (arachnids)1 in rock art has been discovered in the area of Kharga Oasis by the North Khar- ga Oasis Survey,2 toward the western corner of the oasis proper (passim Ikram, 2009a: 78, fig. 15). These were located on the west wall of a shal- low sandstone wadi (valley) that runs roughly north to south (Fig. 1). To the south there are several other panels of varied dates, decorated with images of oryx and giraffe, commonly found in the rock art of the area. There are also crude stone shelters of undetermined date at the mouth of the wadi, and clear indications that the location was, and even today is, a water catchment area and a good stopping place both for animals and humans.3 The images were incised deeply on a concave rock that faces east and is illuminated by the morning sun; the southern portion of the panel has fallen off and lies on the sandy ground.

Yet existing research on income inequality in developing economies has scarcely looked at the regional dimension. This is important, as progress in reducing income inequality at national level can only be partially successful if a country presents large regional variations, where very unequal regions coexist alongside relatively equal ones. This paper contributes to filling this gap with a case study on Egypt. It also adds to our knowledge of income inequality in the Arab region, an area that has not seen extensive empirical analysis. Using newly assembled Luxemburg Income Study (LIS) data and a range of inequality measures, the analysis offers three findings. First, the distribution of income within Egyptian regions has become more unequal during 1999–2015. Second, there has been convergence: differences in income inequality within Egyptian regions tended to reduce, but less unequal regions are converging to similar levels of inequality with more unequal regions.
