MMMCT is at the forefront of change and transformation in the field of education in Bharuch and by the Grace of Allah we have made considerable progress this year. This year has witnessed some significant developments, with the continued development of the MBA College, BEd, and Arts and Commerce programme. We have introduced a IIT driven Language Laboratory that works all the Schools improving proficiency and confidence with all our learners in English. Furthermore we introduced Smart Board into our classrooms with an interactive facility that has been valued by both teachers and pupils. This has significantly improved our classroom based performance. The Schools for both boys and girls have attracted a wide and diverse range of pupils and Trust proudly accepts abroad range of its in take with many educational needs. The Trust's Management Team is putting in place numerous supportive programmes that will enhance our offer and ensure that all the students at MMMCT experience quality education. 2 This Report details some of the significant achievements of the students at our various campuses and this would not be in place without the support and guidance offered to me by my fellow trustees, members of the management team, staff, parents and all the well wishers in the community. The most important asset to the organisation is our students without whom all our endeavours will be fruitless. This is truly a community effort and in a short period the Trust has moved education as cause to many other institutes with the State of Gujarat and in the Bharuch district. We believe that the Trust is at the leading edge in: In transforming the aspirations of children and young people in the field of education In the importance of creating opportunities for children and young people and provide openings for employment and entry into key professions. In promoting partnerships and collaborations to have a greater impact on the lives of children and young people – we have entered into a wide of partnerships nationally and internationally to promote education. In closing, I want to add that none of the exemplary work of MMMCT Charity would be realised without the diligence, devotion and knowledge of an incredibly dedicated staff. I am always struck by their thoughtful, open and accommodating manner; a staff who welcomes new ideas and takes a genuine interest in every MMMCT-funded project from the smallest project to all major changes. To them, we all owe a huge thank you. Mr Mohemed Munshi Dr. Naseem Munshi President. Chairperson MMMCT MMMCT 3 EDITORIAL DELIVERY MORE FOR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION ANNUAL REVIEW AND REPORT "Although 2012-2013 has been all challenging year for the MMMCT, given the changes that we have had to make, it was also a period of great success" . The Academic Year 2012/13, I am delighted to present the Annual Report of MMMCT & VCT, Bharuch. It has been busy but yet another fruitful year at the Campus. The Complex has gone through a programme of refurbishment and repair. The Campus now has extensive landscaping and the redevelopment of the site provides a better atmosphere for learning. Also as usual, this year was full of educational and co-curricular activities. The following pages will indicate that whilst academic achievement is steadily improving and co-curricular activities are also an integral part of our programme. Academic achievement is extremely important and we make all possible efforts to improve our examination results. We encourage the teachers to set high targets and we motivate the students to achieve higher grade. We recognise the importance of education as an instrument of personal development and social change. Our aim is to prepare the students to meet the challenges of the future and also to train them to be useful and responsible members of the society. Our alumni records have illustrated that former MMMCT students have gone on to many higher education institutes and from which they have taken on professions in many parts of the world. We hope that the values that we have offered whilst at MMMCT has been able to provide good discipline while offering students every facility to grow into a complete personality with the appropriate life skills. 4 This year, our focus has been on staff development and continuous staff training. We organized a series of workshops for this purpose and I am pleased to say that the teachers of MMMCT and VCT participated with great enthusiasm and found the workshops extremely useful. We have also prepared a plan to strengthen school, home link. Parent's participation in the school programme will increase and their involvement in their child's education will be encouraged. We recognise the importance of various activities for the all round development of the child. We do not call these activities extra curricular because we consider them to be the part of the curriculum itself. For us these activities are as important as the subjects of the syllabus. And therefore they are co-curricular activities. Obviously the purpose of presenting this report is to inform you about the activities during the year. The tables also indicate our examination results which have always been above the average. Alhamdulillah, we have been making progress in all respects. We are aware that there

ASIA PROGRAM Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars One Woodrow Wilson Plaza 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, D.C. 20004-3027 www.wilsoncenter.org/asia Cover Image: David Talukdar / Shutterstock.com Copyright 2019 All Rights Reserved Preface In 2019, Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved an overwhelming victory in India’s national election. It marked the second such election in a row that resulted in such a resounding triumph for the BJP, a Hindu nationalist party. While the BJP’s win may not have been a surprise—it had been favored by many to win, particularly with the opposition Congress Party having struggled to mount a strong campaign—the large margin of victory was quite striking. In the months leading up to the election, the BJP had looked vulnerable, thanks in great part to several losses in state elections and to soaring unemployment rates. And yet the BJP still managed to pull off a second consecutive dramatic electoral win. How did the BJP get to this point, where it has become the undisputed juggernaut of Indian national politics? This new report, prepared by former Wilson Center public policy fellow Kalyani Shankar, a veteran journalist and political analyst, breaks down the factors that helped account for the BJP’s two electoral triumphs. More broadly, the report demonstrates how the party has evolved over the years, starting from its earliest days, and how it has set itself apart from its rivals. The report also discusses the Indian political right in the context of a current global trend that has seen the rise and triumph of conservative and nationalist political parties and leaders in many different parts of the world.

  • Bhubaneswar Kalita: a Gandhi Loyalist, Ahmad Patel Aide, Who Held Almost All Posts in Congress
Bhubaneswar Kalita: A Gandhi loyalist, Ahmad Patel aide, who held almost all posts in Congress Bhubaneswar Kalita, who was the Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha, resigned on August 5, 2019 -- a day the Centre moved bills in the Upper House stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status under Article 370. In 2014, when Congress president Sonia Gandhi re-nominated Bhubaneswar Kalita to Rajya Sabha, it took many of his then party colleagues in Assam by surprise. The party had never sent any leader from Assam to Rajya Sabha more than thrice, barring, of course, former prime minister Manmohan Singh. There was pressure on Gandhi against re-nominating Kalita, but she nonetheless decided in favour of the long-time Gandhi family loyalist. But five years later, on August 5, 2019, Kalita resigned as Rajya Sabha MP in a move that stunned the leadership. And four days later, in further shocking development, he joined the BJP. His resignation had come on a day the government moved bills in the Upper House stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status under Article 370 and splitting and downgrading it into two Union Territories. “He was among those blessed leaders in Congress,” a Congress veteran from Assam told The Indian Express. Blessed? “Yes, he always had the blessings of the powers that be in the party in Delhi,” the leader explained. “That is why he was one of the so-called frontline leaders of the Congress in Assam without any real popularity, appeal or mass support,” another leader said. Before switching over to the BJP, Kalita held almost all positions in the Assam Congress.
