Mathews Named AP All-American: Gonzaga senior point guard Shannon Mathews gained AP All-America honors after a season in which she averaged 11.5 points per game and 3.6 assists per contest. Mathews also claimed WCC Player of the Year honors and led Gonzaga to a 14-0 mark in WCC games. Mathews is Gonzaga’s first All-American in women’s basketball.

SCU’s 3-point Prowess: The Santa Clara Broncos destroyed their previous WCC record of 200 3-pointers made in a season set in 2003-04 by draining 272 this year. SCU averaged 8.8 treys made per game, which ranked second nationally. The Broncos matched the WCC record of 14 3-pointers made in a single game four times, including twice in the WCC Tournament against San Francisco and Gonzaga. In the WCC Tournament, Santa Clara set a new mark for 3-pointers made during a game with 14 as well as breaking the mark for treys made in a tournament with 30.

Eight Players For Next Year: With the exodus of so many top seniors, the WCC will see the emergence of new players to fill the roles of those that have departed. Eight impact players for next season are Anne Bailey (GU), Rachael Ziemann (LMU), Daphanie Kennedy (PEP), Whitney Grant (POR), Brianna Winn (SMC), Amber Sprague (USD), Dominique Carter (USF) and Michelle Cozad (SCU).

Anne Bailey, GU - The senior forward will look to fill the shoes of Ashley Burke as the Bulldgos main threat down low. Bailey averaged 9.9 points per game and five rebounds per contest off the Bulldog bench.

Rachael Ziemann, LMU - One of the top returning 3-point threats in the WCC. Ziemann averaged 10.2 points per game and drained 63 3-pointers.

Daphanie Kennedy, PEP - As a freshman Kennedy made 17 starts at the guard spot for Pepperdine and averaged 9.2 points per game.

Whitney Grant, POR - The junior started all 28 games at guard for Portland and averaged 10.7 points per game. Grant and freshman Meagan Bermingham should form one of the WCC’s top backcourts next season.

Brianna Winn, SMC - With the departure of forward Triola Jackson, Winn should have more freedom on the perimeter to operate. The junior made 23 starts for SMC and averaged 9.5 points per game.

Amber Sprague, USD - The freshman center burst onto the scene as a major scoring force down low for San Diego. Sprague paced the Toreros in scoring with 14.5 points per contest and led the WCC in scoring for several weeks.

Dominique Carter, USF - Another freshman who put up strong numbers in her first year on the collegiate hardwood. Carter led the Dons in scoring all season with an average of 15.2 points per game.

Michelle Cozad, SCU - This long range bomber will be the main shooter in the Broncos 3-point attack next season. Cozad scored 13.1 points per game mainly off the SCU bench.
