Therefore, wind-assisted marks (see IAAF rules 260.22d, 260.26b and 260.27) should not be regarded as Championship Records. In der 4. Gruppe stehen dann die Begriffe: Höchstleistung, Bestleistung, Spitzenleistung, einen record aufstellen, ....erzielen, ...brechen, ....verbessern, ....schlagen. Im Knaurs Jugendlexikon, Ausgabe 1953 ist das Wort wie folgt erklärt: „Rekord (engl. record) steht für Höchstleistung, Bestleistung – höchste und beste Leistung die auf einem Gebiet erzielt wird.“ Das moderne Lexikon von Bertelsmann, Ausgabe 1972, Band 15 umschreibt das Wort Rekord wie folgt: „Höchstleistung im Sport unter bestimmten Bedingungen aufgestellte und von einer sportamtlichen Stelle anerkannte Höchstleistung. Diesen im Leistungssport verwendeten absoluten, maximalen Rekordbegriff steht im pädagogischen Bereich der relative (potentielle, persönliche) Rekord gegenüber.
