Admittance is limited to those wearing badges. Each listing is arranged chronologically by date and time of the activity; the hotel and room location for each session and function are indicated CONVENTION FACILITIES Twenty-four hotels are being used for housing. Sessions and other convention functions are in the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Loews Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Convention Center. A map of Philadelphia indicating the locations of the hotels, an alphabetical listing of function rooms within the hotels, and hotel floor plans are in the next section of this book. Registration and Exhibits are located in the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, the Headquarters hotel. Co-Headquarters is the Loews Philadelphia. The Job Placement Service, Interview Tables, and many sessions are located in the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Details follow. The $35 per night premium for the headquarters hotel is rebated to ASSA to help cover the cost of the meetings. REGISTRATION Everyone must register including speakers, discussants, and administrators who will be occupying an ASSA hotel room at the convention rate. Identification badges are required for admission to all sessions and activities. On-site and Pre-registrants may pick up their registration packets at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Franklin Hall, Level 4. On-site registration fee is $120. Full time student registration fee is $50. SHUTTLE ASSA will run a shuttle from the Sheraton Society Hill, Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing, Hotel Monaco and Omni Hotel at Independence Park to the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown/Pennsylvania Convention Center, morning and evenings only. All other hotels are within a 4-15 minute walk. ASSA will run a continuous shuttle between the Pennsylvania Convention Center/Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Westin, Hotel Palomar, Sofitel, Embassy Suites, Four Seasons Hotel, and Sheraton Downtown and then back to facilitate job candidate movement.     Global Political Ecology The world is caught in the mesh of a series of environmental crises. So far attempts at resolving the deep basis of these have been superficial and disorganized. Global Political Ecology links the political economy of global capitalism with the political ecology of a series of environmental disasters and failed attempts at environmental policies. This critical volume draws together contributions from 25 leading intellectuals in the field. It begins with an introductory chapter that introduces the readers to political ecology and summarises the book’s main findings. The following seven sections cover topics on the political ecology of war and the disaster state; fuelling capitalism: energy scarcity and abundance; global governance of health, bodies, and genomics; the contradictions of global food; capital’s marginal product: effluents, waste, and garbage; water as a commodity, human right, and power; the functions and dysfunctions of the global green economy; political ecology of the global climate; and carbon emissions. This book contains accounts of the main currents of thought in each area that bring the topics completely up-to-date. The individual chapters contain a theoretical introduction linking in with the main themes of political ecology, as well as empirical information and case material. MY SYSTEM OF WORK (NOT!) by Avinash Dixit Princeton University Among the signals of approaching senility, few can be clearer than being asked to write an article on one's methods of work. The profession's implied judgment is that one's time is better spent giving helpful tips to younger researchers than doing new work oneself. However, of all the lessons I have learnt during a quarter century of research, the one I have found most valuable is always to work as if one were still twenty-three. From such a young perspective, I find it difficult to give advice to anyone. The reason why I agreed to write this piece will appear later. I hope readers will take it for what it is -- scattered and brash remarks of someone who pretends to have a perpetually juvenile mind, and not the distilled wisdom of a middle-aged has-been. Writing such a piece poses a basic problem at any age. There are no sure-fire rules for doing good research, and no routes that clearly lead to failure. Ask any six economists and you will get six dozen recipes for success. Each of the six will flatly contradict one or more of the others. And all of them may be right -- for some readers and at some times. So you should take all such suggestions with skepticism.

The experience in telemedicine, robotics and Brain Computer Interface (BCI) allowed the hospital to develop a communication system based exclusively on the modulation of brain activity recorded with an electroencephalograph, even without moving a muscle.
