Ryder Cup Rookies Shine Using Great Big Bertha II Titanium Drivers Callaway Golf Staff Professionals Key European Victory; Ryder Cup Rookies Shine Using Great Big Bertha II Titanium Drivers October 1, 2002 CARLSBAD, Calif., Oct 1, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) was a major player in the outcome of last week's Ryder Cup Matches at the Belfry. Two of the Company's Staff Professionals -- each using the new Great Big Bertha(R) II Titanium Driver -- helped the European side rally to a victory as rookies in Ryder Cup competition. Phillip Price and Niclas Fasth each used Great Big Bertha II Pro Series Titanium Drivers and were among the 10 golfers to use Callaway Golf(R) equipment in the 24-player team event. Price was a surprise star for the European side, pulling off a major upset by defeating Phil Mickelson in singles, 3 and 2. Price's stunning victory, sealed by a clutch putt with his Odyssey(R) White Hot(R) "2-Ball" Putter on the 16th green, gave the Europeans a strong surge of momentum and brought them within a point of capturing the Ryder Cup. Price used the HX(R) Red golf ball and 11 Callaway Golf clubs, including a Steelhead(TM) III 5-wood and Steelhead X-14(R) Pro Series Irons. Fasth then halved his dramatic match with Paul Azinger to put Europe within a half-point of clinching the Matches, which the team did just a few minutes later. Fasth used the HX Red golf ball and a full complement of 14 Callaway Golf clubs, including a Steelhead III Strong 3-wood, Steelhead X-14 Pro Series Irons, three Callaway Golf Forged Wedges and an Odyssey White Hot Mid Putter. The leading point-winner for either team at the matches was Callaway Golf Staff Professional Colin Montgomerie, who tallied 4-1/2 points over his five matches. Montgomerie used 12 Callaway Golf clubs at the Ryder Cup Matches, including a Big Bertha(R) Hawk Eye(R) VFT(R) Pro Series Titanium Driver, Big Bertha Irons and an Odyssey White Hot Mid Putter. Also turning in strong performances for the European team were Callaway Golf Staff Professionals Jesper Parnevik -- using a Great Big Bertha II Pro Series Titanium Driver -- and Pierre Fulke, each of whom halved their Sunday singles matches. Two Callaway Golf Ball Staff Professionals also made important contributions to their teams. Padraig Harrington used the HX Blue golf ball to earn two points for the Europeans, while Mark Calcavecchia used the HX Red golf ball to add a point to the U.S. side's total. The Ryder Cup was a successful conclusion to Callaway Golf's involvement in this year's professional team matches. Out of the 50 golfers to take part in the Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup Matches this year, 31 relied upon Callaway Golf equipment. Callaway Golf Company makes and sells Big Bertha(R) Metal Woods and Irons, including Great Big Bertha(R) II Titanium Drivers and Fairway Woods, Big Bertha C4(TM) Compression Cured Carbon Composite Drivers, Big Bertha ERC(R) II Forged Titanium Drivers, Big Bertha ERC Forged Titanium Fairway Woods, Big Bertha Hawk Eye(R) VFT(R) and Big Bertha Hawk Eye VFT Pro Series Titanium Drivers and Fairway Woods, Big Bertha Steelhead(TM) III Stainless Steel Drivers and Fairway Woods, Hawk Eye VFT Tungsten Injected(TM) Titanium Irons, Big Bertha Stainless Steel Irons, Steelhead X-16(TM) and Steelhead X-16 Pro Series Stainless Steel Irons, Steelhead X-14(R) and Steelhead X-14 Pro Series Stainless Steel Irons, and Callaway Golf Forged Wedges. • ANNUAL REPORT 2015 CHAIRMAN's REPORT Dr Val
ANNUAL REPORT 2015 CHAIRMAN’S REPORT Following on from the adoption of the Governance and Electoral procedural review last year and GUW’s commitment to Sports Wales Governance Framework we advertised Board and Chairmen of Committee vacancies. The number and calibre of applicants was gratifying and has resulted in the appointment of a group of people with a diverse range of skills that will enable us to continue to build on the excellent foundation and progress achieved by GUW since its inception in 2007. A strategic review of GUW will be held shortly to ensure we are addressing the needs of Welsh golf in the best possible way. Dr Val Franklin Richard Dixon continues to manage and support a dedicated team of staff whose hard work and commitment delivers the best possible programmes to support Welsh golf clubs and players. It’s always sad to lose members of any such team but we wish Gavin Reen, Stuart Stenhouse and Ben Waterhouse all the best in their future careers and thank them for their contributions during their time with us. Challenges remain for golf globally in terms of participation, particularly in the area of male and female golfers for which the levels of players remain at 85% and 15% in Wales respectively, and retention of members but adopting flexible approaches to being part of a club, playing the game and encouraging families should hopefully help to redress this balance. GUW’s programmes are available to support clubs and players and its encouraging that more clubs are engaging in these programmes as reflected in case studies on the GDW web site but clubs do need to fully commit to using and implementing these resources to maximise their impact and sustainability of change.
