THE BOOK of ENOCH Ken Lent 2018 Evidence Is Presented That the “Book of Enoch” Was Never Written by Enoch of Genesis Chapter 5 < Back Home> THE BOOK OF ENOCH Ken Lent 2018 Evidence is presented that the “Book of Enoch” was never written by Enoch of Genesis chapter 5 What do we make of a few similarities between the Bible and the Book of Enoch? Can we count on the Book of Enoch for sound doctrine? There are those who cite Jude 14 & 15 in our New Testament, where the same quote is found in Enoch 2:1. 14 "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, Yahweh cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him." Does this mean that Jude quoted from the Book of Enoch and that Jude considered the Book of Enoch to be inspired Scripture? No, it does not. All it means is that in the ancient world the "real Enoch" was known for having said this. Whoever wrote the Book of Enoch quoted this statement from Enoch, and so did Jude. They simply both used a common source, either an oral source or a written one still buried in the middle east sands. There is no implication that Jude took this quote from the Book of Enoch, nor that Jude had recognized any of that book as inspired in any manner. The Book of Enoch is not mentioned in the Bible, and no prophet or apostle draws upon it to teach any doctrine. On the contrary, instead of any prophet or apostle quoting from or agreeing with the passages written in the Book of Enoch, we find the opposite -- the Word of God and the Book of Enoch are traveling in different directions on major doctrines of faith. Concerning THE NAME OF SALVATION (JESUS the CHRIST OF NAZARETH / the manifestation of Yahweh the Almighty) -- the Bible teaches that this is the ONLY name of salvation for Israel. 12 " Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name (Jesus, Christ) under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." In all three languages (three witnesses - Hebrew, Greek, English) that have carried God's Word for Israel while migrating westward, that name is the same --- Yahshua, Iesous, Jesus – meaning “Yahweh manifested as salvation”. NO OTHER NAME! Yet the Book of Enoch dares to teach the blasphemy that another name is our salvation. The name of Phanuel, an angel. In chapter 40 we read: 1 (8) After that I asked the angel of peace who went with me, who showed me everything that is hidden: ‘Who are these four presences which I have (9) seen and whose words I have heard and written down?’ And he said to me: ‘This first is Michael, the merciful and long-suffering: and the second, who is set over all the diseases and all the wounds of the children of men, is Raphael: and the third, who is set over all the powers, is Gabriel: and the fourth, who is set over the repentance unto hope of those who inherit eternal life, is named Phanuel.’ 10 And these are the four angels of the Lord of Spirits and the four voices I heard in those days." So according to the Book of Enoch the name that is set over repentance and eternal life is a supposed angel's name, whose name is PHANUEL! Where is this "Saviour Angel" mentioned in the Bible? Nowhere. Angel worship was an Edomite Judaic superstitious invention that gained popularity in the centuries before Jesus Christ --- and the Book of Enoch is loaded of this heresy. The only place these angels existed was in the imagination of occultists of that era. God's divinely inspired Word tells us who rules over repentance between a man and God, and it's not some Jewish imagined angel named Phanuel... "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." (1st Timothy 2:5) “Him (Jesus) hath God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.” (Acts 5:31) What does 1 John 2:22 teach us about those who deny that Christ is the Messiah Saviour whom the Bible says is the Master of our repentance? "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son." God’s Word calls the Book of Enoch a liar. Whom shall we believe? Judaic superstitions or Scripture? Who saves us? Jesus who alone is Christ, or Phanuel? That's not all we find in the blasphemous Book of Enoch, chapter 69:8-12... 8" ...And the fourth was named Penemue: he taught the 9 children of men the bitter and the sweet, and he taught them all the secrets of their wisdom. And he instructed mankind in writing with ink and paper, and thereby many sinned from eternity to 10 eternity and until this day. For men were not created for such a purpose, to give confirmation 2 11 to their good faith with pen and ink. For men were created exactly like the angels, to the intent that they should continue pure and righteous, and death, which destroys everything, could not have taken hold of them, but through this their knowledge they are perishing, and through this power 12 it is consuming me." Let’s consider what is claimed here --- a fallen angel named Penemue is the source of our wisdom, and that writing with ink and paper is the great sin that condemns us for eternity. This is yet another Jewish fable found in the text of the Book of Enoch. Still Continuing – unsuspecting Christians are introduced to more superstitions by those who teach from this uninspired book. How about so called fallen angels mating with mortal women to produce 450 foot giants? Chapter 7 2 "And when the angels, (3) the sons of heaven, beheld them, they became enamoured of them, saying to each other, Come, let us select for ourselves wives from the progeny of men, and let us beget children. 3 Then their leader Samyaza said to them; I fear that you may perhaps be indisposed to the performance of this enterprise; 9 These are the names of their chiefs: Samyaza, who was their leader, Urakabarameel, Akibeel, Tamiel, Ramuel, Danel, Azkeel, Saraknyal, Asael, Armers, Batraal, Anane, Zavebe, Samsaveel, Ertael, Turel, Yomyael, Arazyal. These were the prefects of the two hundred angels, and the remainder were all with them. 10 Then they took wives, each choosing for himself; whom they began to approach, and with whom they cohabited; teaching them sorcery, incantations, and the dividing of roots and trees. 11 And the women conceiving brought forth giants, 12 Whose stature was each three hundred cubits. These devoured all which the labor of men produced; until it became impossible to feed them; 13When they turned themselves against men, in order to devour them; 14And began to injure birds, beasts, reptiles, and fishes, to eat their flesh one after another, ... and to drink their blood." If this is true, where are the skeletons/fossils of 450 giants roaming the Earth? A football field is only 300 feet long. Rarely, enticing hoaxes have been presented only to later be exposed as fakes. 3 The Bible teaches that there were giants in the Old Testament but they were mere people. As seen with Goliath the Philistine (1st Samuel 17:4), he was 9' 6" tall (not 450 feet). What the Bible has taught about reality, the Book of Enoch has taken and grossly exaggerated by adding silly myths of different pagan religions. The notion of "fallen angel demons" mating with daughters of men is a Babylonian/Jewish/Papal fable that contradicts the Word of Yahweh once again. God’s Word teaches no such thing as literal "demons" seducing women. If demons sexually seduce women, why does it not happen today? Why aren't women today giving birth to gigantic half demon/ half people infants, after a night of mating with a supposed "invisible demon"? This again is a wild speculation within the fables of the Book of Enoch misquoting Genesis chapter 6. In that chapter we read that "The sons of Elohim (a word meaning 'mighty ones' in several different applications) saw the daughters of men that they were fair." (v.2) This was simply an aggressive race of warrior people, probably Cain's mixed line of Nodites, that intermarried with Adamic white women. What does the Bible clearly say about their offspring? The "giants" they produced were "mighty MEN which were of old, MEN of renown ." (v. 6) These men of renown were wicked (v.5), they were corrupt and they were violent (v.11); – however -- they were not "half super angelic, half humans" 450 feet tall. This account is typical of the multi-religious legends mixed with Bible history that we find written in the Book of Enoch. To make things worse, according to the Book of Enoch, we can't even defend ourselves against evil people who prey violently upon our Saxon folk without having a "spiritual guilt trip" about it. In the Book of Enoch, chapter 69:4-6, we find ---- 4 "The name of the first (bad angel) Jeqon: that is, the one who led astray all the sons of God, and brought them 5 down to the earth, and led them astray through the daughters of men.

Andrei A. Orlov Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI USA The Face as the Heavenly Counterpart of the Visionary in the Slavonic Ladder of Jacob [published in: Of Scribes and Sages (ed. C. Evans; London: T&T Clark/Continuum, 2004) 59-76] Introduction The book of Genesis portrays Jacob as someone who not only saw God but also wrestled with Him. Jacob’s visionary experiences begin in Gen. 28 where he sees in a dream the ladder on which the angels of God are ascending and descending. Above the ladder Jacob beholds the Lord. The distinct feature of the Bethel account is the paucity of theophanic imagery. Despite the fact that the vision is linked with the celestial realm (“ladder’s top reaching to heaven”), which is labeled in the story as “the awesome place”, “the house of God”, and “the gate of heaven”, the narrative does not offer any descriptions of God’s celestial court or His appearance. Instead we have the audible revelation of God, His lengthy address to Jacob with promises and blessings. God appears again to Jacob in Gen. 32. While the narrative stresses the importance of the vision of God (the account claims that Jacob “saw God face to face” and even called the place of wrestling Peniel/Penuel - “The Face of God”), it focuses its description on Jacob’s wrestling with God rather than his seeing of God. The reference to the motif of God’s Face (which plays an important role in a number of Biblical theophanic accounts)1 and to Jacob’s seeing of God “face to face” could however indicate that the authors or editors of Jacob’s account might be cognizant of the broader anthropomorphic theophanic debates in which the motif of God’s Face2 1 See for example Exod.

A N G E L S (amemJam¿) 1. Brief description 2. Nine orders of Angels 3. Archangels and Other Angels 1. Brief description of angels * Angels are spiritual beings created by God to serve Him, though created higher than man. Some, the good angels, have remained obedient to Him and carry out His will. Lucifer, whose ambitions were a distortion of God's plan, is known to us as the fallen angel, with the use of many names, among which are Satan, Belial, Beelzebub and the Devil. * The word "angelos" in Greek means messenger. Angels are purely spiritual beings that do God's will (Psalms 103:20, Matthew 26:53). * Angels were created before the world and man (Job 38:6,7) * Angels appear in the Bible from the beginning to the end, from the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation. * The Bible is our best source of knowledge about angels - for example, Psalms 91:11, Matthew 18:10 and Acts 12:15 indicate humans have guardian angels. The theological study of angels is known as angelology. * 34 books of Bible refer to angels, Christ taught their existence (Matt.8:10; 24:31; 26:53 etc.). * An angel can be in only one place at one time (Dan.9:21-23; 10:10-14), b. Although they are spirit beings, they can appear in the form of men (in dreams – Matt.1:20; in natural sight with human functions – Gen. 18:1-8; 22: 19:1; seen by some and not others – 2 Kings 6:15-17). * Angels cannot reproduce (Mark 12:25), 3.

  • Dark Mirrors: Azazel and Satanael in Early Jewish Demonology
Orlov Dark Mirrors RELIGIOUS STUDIES Azazel and Satanael in Early Jewish Demonology Dark Mirrors is a wide-ranging study of two central figures in early Jewish demonology—the fallen angels Azazel and Satanael. Andrei A. Orlov explores the mediating role of these paradigmatic celestial rebels in the development of Jewish demonological traditions from Second Temple apocalypticism to later Jewish mysticism, such as that of the Hekhalot and Shi ur Qomah materials. Throughout, Orlov makes use of Jewish pseudepigraphical materials in Slavonic that are not widely known. Dark Mirrors Orlov traces the origins of Azazel and Satanael to different and competing mythologies of evil, one to the Fall in the Garden of Eden, the other to the revolt of angels in the antediluvian period. Although Azazel and Satanael are initially representatives of rival etiologies of corruption, in later Jewish and Christian demonological lore each is able to enter the other’s stories in new conceptual capacities. Dark Mirrors also examines the symmetrical patterns of early Jewish demonology that are often manifested in these fallen angels’ imitation of the attributes of various heavenly beings, including principal angels and even God himself. Andrei A. Orlov is Associate Professor of Theology at Marquette University. He is the author of several books, including Selected Studies in the Slavonic Pseudepigrapha. BOOK OF ENOCH From-The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament R.H. Charles Oxford: The Clarendon Press Section I. Chapters I-XXXVI INTRODUCTION [Chapter 1] 1 The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be 2 living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are to be removed. And he took up his parable and said -Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is 3 for to come. Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them: The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling, 4 And the eternal God will tread upon the earth, (even) on Mount Sinai, [And appear from His camp] And appear in the strength of His might from the heaven of heavens. 5 And all shall be smitten with fear And the Watchers shall quake, And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth. 6 And the high mountains shall be shaken, And the high hills shall be made low, And shall melt like wax before the flame 7 And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder, And all that is upon the earth shall perish, And there shall be a judgement upon all (men). 8 But with the righteous He will make peace.

Jones Christian Theology and History Adult Sunday School Courses Robert Jones www.sundayschoolcourses.com I’ve always been a strong believer in adult Sunday School classes and Bible studies in our churches. And many churches have quality, Biblically-based adult-focused programs. Unfortunately, just as many churches tend to downplay adult education, focusing on children’s education (not a bad thing in itself), or focusing on the needs of the “unchurched”, where topics such as church history and theology are often purposely ignored. Yet there is a strong need for adult education focused on both the Bible and the basic tenets and history of the Faith. Among the reasons: Not all adults come from a strong childhood background in the church – adult Sunday School classes/Bible studies may be their first serious introduction to what Christianity is all about Christianity (and especially Evangelical Christianity) is under constant attack from the media and popular culture (movies, music, etc.). We need to give fellow Christians the tools to defend the Faith against at- tack (or to provide a “ready defense” as Peter says in 1 Peter 3:15) Even adult Christians that have a strong Biblical background often know little about the origins and history of their Faith To better meet the needs of adult Christians (both those mature in their Faith, and those just starting out in the “School of Christ”), I’ve written a series of courses that focus on the history of the Christian Church (including the Jewish roots), as well as the development of doctrine in the Church.

  • Book of Enoch and Noah
Book Of Enoch And Noah ‘Enoch lived three hundred sixty-five years. Enoch walked with God and he was not for God took him’ (Genesis 5:23 & 24). ‘By faith, Enoch was taken so he would not see death, and he was not found (on earth) because God translated him. Enoch has the testimony given to him, before his translation he had been well pleasing to God’ (Hebrews 11:5). ‘Enoch, the seventh generation from Adam prophesied saying, "Behold, the Lord came with ten thousands of His holy ones to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their works of ungodliness which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the blasphemous things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him’” (Jude 1:14 & 15). This quote in Jude was a prophecy written by Enoch about the final judgement of all mankind. About 300 BC, the Jewish group called the Sadducees removed from the Tenach (Old Testament), the Book of Enoch. During that time, much of the Old Testament was translated into Greek for the Greek-speaking Jews. The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection or life after death (Matthew 22:23; Luke 20:27), putting the Sadducees at odds with the prophets, because the Book of Enoch majors on the Godly being resurrected to eternal life with God, and the ungodly being resurrected to damnation, as is also written in the Book of Daniel (Daniel 12:2). Jesus warned the Jewish people living in His day, not to accept the wrong teaching, or the ‘leaven’ preached by the Sadducees (Matthew 16:6).

NOTES AND STUDIES THE SEVEN ARCHANGELS AND THE SEVEN SPIRITS: A STUDY IN THE ORIGIN, DEVELOPEMENT, AND MESSIANIC ASSOCIATIONS OF THE TWO THEMES. IN a former study 1 I advanced the theory that there were two chief schools of Messianic doctrine in Jewry, ( 1) that which looked for the coming of the Angel of Yahweh, and (2) that which expected a Spirit endowed man, in the office of Messiah. The former school made use of Babylonian imagery to clothe its predictions of the Angel; the latter expressly avoided the use of it. Thus the presence or absence of this imagery is a distinguishing mark of the predictions of the two schools. The following study applies the general theory to the two themes of the Seven Archangels and the Seven Spirits. Both themes, as will be shewn, originated during the exile ; but whereas the school which originated and developed the doctrine of Archangels made the fullest use of Babylonian ideas, the other school explicitly rejected B.abylo nianism. The two schools of thought thus shew the same differentiation throughout their history : they were in opposition in regard to ( 1) the existence and office of the Messianic Angel, (2) the existence and func tions of angels, and (3) the employment of Babylonian ideas and terms in the doctrines of Yahwism. All these three the former school accepted, and the latter school rejected because it jealously taught the m~st rigid form of monotheism. • It is not the case, therefore, that the doctrine of the Seven Spirits differs from that of the Seven Archangels simply in terminology, as some scholars suggest.

ANGELS Angels are mentioned 320 times in the Bible (NIV). What do angels look like? Why were they created? And what do angels do? Humans have always held a fascination for angels and angelic beings. For centuries artists have tried to capture images of angels on canvas. It may surprise you to know that the Bible describes angels nothing at all like they are typically depicted in paintings. (You know, those cute little chubby babies with wings?) 1 1 https://www.learnreligions.com/what-does-the-bible-say-about-angels-701965 ANGELS Angels were created by God. Ps 148:2-5 (NIV) Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts… Let them praise the name of the Lord, for at his command they were created… This was done in the person of Christ. Col 1:16 (NIV) For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. Angels were present when God created the world. Job 38:1-7 (NIV) …“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?… while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” ANGELS There are millions of angels. John hears “the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads [Greek: myriades myriadōn] and thousands of thousands” (Rev 5:11, ESV). 1 They were created to live for eternity and do not die. Luke 20:36 (NIV) “… and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels.” Unlike humans, they do not need to marry or procreate to sustain their numbers.
