The sweet taste comes from the fructose. Most sugar comes from sugar cane or beets, though you can find it in almost all plants. Copyright 2014 5 The Health Coach Group 1 When you eat a simple sugar (short chain) it causes a rapid rise in blood glucose. We know this increase as a “sugar high.” 2 Then your blood sugar drops suddenly (hypoglycemia) – “crashes” or gives you what we lovingly refer to as “sugar blues”. This mechanism causes the pancreas to produce insulin to lower the blood sugar. It this occurs too often, the pancreas begins to compensate and becomes resistant. This repeated cycle over time can lead to insulin resistance and eventually diabetes or diabesity. Correspondence e-mail: [email protected], [email protected] Abstract: The physico-chemical characteristics and antimicrobial activity of oil palm syrup, raffia palm syrup and honey were studied. The materials contained mainly carbohydrate (64.76-68.79%) and water (28.05- 31.50). They exhibited similar densities (1.23-1.26 g cm-3) and pH (3.51-4.18), and had low ash (0.30-0.50%), protein (0.24-1.04%) and lipid (2.20-3.62%) content. They had modest content of Fe (2.35-3.30 mg/100g), Ca (37.06-79.05 mg/100g), and phenolic compounds (125.93-185.44 mg GAE /100 g), and were rich in potassium (325.12-628.56 mg/100g). They contained non-enzymatic browning products (browning intensity was 0.71 for honey, 0.159 for raffia palm syrup and 0.175 for oil palm syrup). The materials exhibited antimicrobial activity against clinical strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The antimicrobial activities of dilute solutions (0.1 ml, 0.5% aqueous solutions) of the honey (containing 360 µg dry matter) and syrups (raffia, 360 µg and oil palm, 340 µg dry matter) were similar to that of 10 µg of the antibiotic streptomycin.

    Corn Protein in Icing Protein ingredients can be added to confectionery products to aid in water and fat retention. Another benefit is protein fortification. An experiment was run to evaluate the impact of adding corn protein to an icing formula. The experiment compared a control and test sample. Corn protein was produced by Cargill with at least 85 wt% corn protein (dry basis) and less than about 1.5 wt% oil (dry basis), as described in patent application WO20161544CPI. The formula could be adapted to use corn protein with a minimum of 65 wt% protein and less than 3 wt% oil (dry basis) and anticipate the same finding. An example involves white icings. Icings with and without the addition of corn protein were prepared using the formula and process procedures listed. Corn protein replaced powdered sugar in this example. Sugar syrup and citric acid monohydrate treated sugar syrup (partially inverted) were considered as control and test sugar syrup, respectively which were used to manufacture the Diphenhydramine HCl syrup product. The Diphenhydramine HCl syrup product that prepared using sugar syrup was considered as control syrup product and that was prepared using citric acid monohydrate treated sugar syrup (partially inverted) was considered as the test syrup product. Guidelines about sugar replacement are different in different sources. It is easy to understand this confusing situation when you realize there are actually two ingredients that need to be balanced. When replacing granulated sugar in a recipe with maple syrup you should consider both the sugar balance and the liquid balance of the recipe. Some recommendations say to add 1 ! cup of syrup to replace one cup of sugar, others say to replace one cup of sugar with " cup of maple syrup. One is trying to balance the liquid in the recipe, the other the sweetness. The most straightforward approach is to simply replace one cup of granulated cane sugar with one cup of granulated maple sugar. In this case you gain the extra flavors from maple while the sweetness and the liquid stay in balance. I would especially suggest this where the recipe is depending on the qualities of milk or another liquid that you may be reducing to perform some important function in the recipe beyond what simply using water would accomplish. Liquid vs. Dry Liquid vs. Dry One cup of maple syrup at a fairly common density of 67º Brix provides 7.5 ounces (214 grams) of sugar and 3.7 ounces (105 grams) of water. One cup of cane sugar averages about 7.4 ounces (210 grams) of sugar. This is roughly the same amount sugar in a cup of maple syrup as in a cup of granulated sugar.

Traditional sugar processing has some drawbacks for example: low energy efficiency processing and off-specification products. On the other side, sugar palm neera has important antioxidant component which benefits for human that unavailable in normal white sugar from sugarcane. In this current review, characterization of neera from various palms in Indonesia and available technology on sugar palm processing such as spray dryer and membrane ultrafiltration will be discussed. The following words and phrases when used in these Regulations shall have the meaning ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: (a) Dealer. Any person engaged in the business of selling Sugar Sweetened Beverage for retail sale within the City, including but not limited to restaurants; retail stores; street vendors; owners and operators of vending machines; non-profits; government agencies; schools; and distributors who engage in retail sales. (See Example 12 for illustration) (b) Department. The Department of Revenue, in some cases working with the Law Department. (c) Distributor. Any person who supplies Sugar Sweetened Beverage to a dealer. (d) Registered Dealer. Any Dealer that has elected to register as if it were a Distributor and agreed to assume all of the obligations of a Distributor, under subsection 302(b) of these Regulations. These are producing from palm trees various parts they are wood based, leaf based fiber based, coir based, etc. The aim of this study is to protect the Palmyra tree and make awareness about Palmyra palm products. The edible and non-edible products of Palmyra palm were analyzed. The edible products are good for health and providing various medicinal and nutritional benefits to the humans. The non-edible products are useful to humans like mat, bags, manuscripts, fiber brushes, baskets, etc. These products are easily available in village area, but these are very important for human life growth. The central and state Government supports are needed for to grow these products. Proper training and awareness program among producers will increase the development of Palmyra palm products and manufacturing industries.
