  • Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP Chancellor of the Exchequer HM Treasury 1 Horse Guards Road London SW1A 2HQ
Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP Chancellor of the Exchequer HM Treasury 1 Horse Guards Road London SW1A 2HQ Dear Chancellor, Budget Measures to Support Hospitality and Tourism We are writing today as members and supporters of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Hospitality and Tourism ahead of the Budget on 3rd March. As you will of course be aware, hospitality and tourism are vital to the UK’s economy along with the livelihoods and wellbeing of millions of people across the UK. The pandemic has amplified this, with its impacts illustrating the pan-UK nature of these sectors, the economic benefits they generate, and the wider social and wellbeing benefits that they provide. The role that these sectors play in terms of boosting local, civic pride in all our constituencies, and the strong sense of community that they foster, should not be underestimated. It is well-established that people relate to their local town centres, high streets and community hubs, of which the hospitality and tourism sectors are an essential part. The latest figures from 2020 highlight the significant impact that the virus has had on these industries. In 2020, the hospitality sector has seen a sales drop of 53.8%, equating to a loss in revenue of £72 billion. This decline has impacted the UK’s national economy by taking off around 2 percentage points from total GDP. For hospitality, this downturn is already estimated to be over 10 times worse than the impact of the financial crisis. It is estimated that employment in the sector has dropped by over 1 million jobs.

  • Integrating Education in Northern Ireland
INTEGRATING EDUCATION IN NORTHERN IRELAND: Celebrating Inclusiveness and Fostering Innovation in our Schools November 2016 The Report of the Independent Review of Integrated Education to Mr Peter Weir MLA, Minister for Education, Northern Ireland by Prof Margaret Topping and Mr Colm M Cavanagh Celebrating Inclusion and Fostering Creativity in our Schools … Northern Ireland is an advanced, modern society. Its people are productive, literate, articulate. But for all its modernity and literacy, Northern Ireland has been divided, by a deep and ancient hatred, into two hostile communities, their enmity burnished by centuries of conflict. They have often inflicted hurt, physical and psychological, on members of the other community, and they have been quick to take offense at real or perceived slights. They have a highly developed sense of grievance. … Each is a minority … Each sees itself as a victim community, constantly under siege, the recipient of a long litany of violent blows from the other …. I wondered how it was possible to have two such completely different views of the same society. George J. Mitchell, Making Peace (Berkeley: University of California Press, 1999), pp.13 and 27. We are a conservative society that promotes safety over adventure and celebrates academic attainment by the gifted few over the creativity and teamwork of everyone. We [need] leadership centred on hope, aspiration and belief and the opportunity to be inspired by and learn from each other … If we make the change to education, we will rule the world. Steve Orr, Director, Catalyst Inc., in his 2016 Sir Bernard Crossland Lecture, Queen’s University Belfast.

  • Comhairle Uladh Ulster Council G.A.A
Comhairle Uladh Ulster Council G.A.A. 9th March 2021 Re: BHF CPR & Defibrillator Training Programme A chairde, Ulster GAA have been engaged with CPR and Defibrillator training programmes for over 10 years, with great success. We have worked with a number of service providers in this important area of work, including the British Heart Foundation. Most recently we have been involved in the promotion and roll-out of “Call Push Rescue” training to our youth members with the assistance of BHF. BHF are seeking the GAA community’s support in making it mandatory that such life-saving training is made compulsory in schools, so that survival rates for people in our community suffering from an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest are improved to the levels of other countries where this training is rolled-out in schools. Please see a plea from Fearghal McKinney from BHF attached which outlines how the GAA can make their voice heard on this important issue. Please share this letter, and our social media posts on this matter with your members asking that they take a few short minutes to complete the online survey. Yours in Sport, Is mise, lea meas, Brian Mac Fhíobhuí Rúnaí/Chief Executive Officer CLG Comhairle Uladh Brian Mac Fhíobhuí, Rúnaí, Comhairle Uladh, 8-10 Sráid an Mhargaidh, Ard Mhacha 8-10 Market Street, Armagh, BT61 7BX Tel: 028 (048) 37521900 Email: [email protected] Web: www.ulster.gaa.ie Dear friends We're asking for your support to fill in a short consultation survey on making CPR training and defibrillator awareness compulsory in schools in Northern Ireland.
