Christmas has been around for over a hundred years – Christmas on stamps that is. Ever since the words ‘Xmas 1898’ appeared on an issue from Canada, over 150 countries have issued stamps to honor this holiday. Due to the high volume of stamps, in 1989, the American Topical Association asked Dorothy Henderson, then President of the Christmas Philatelic Club (CPC), to recommend someone to compile a list of Christmas stamps, which they could add to their collection of Topical CHECKLISTS. Everleigh (Ev) Foster (CPC #179), with the assistance of James (Jim) Bie (CPC #876) undertook the task, which took two and a half years to complete. It was published by the ATA in 1991 and listed every stamp (each with its own individual description) from 159 countries, from the earliest date of 1898 until 1990. It is currently still available from the ATA as "Christmas Stamps of the World" -- ATA Handbook 120. After 1990, an annual update was submitted by Mr. Foster and published in bi-monthly issues of CPC's newsletter, the YULE LOG. This continued until his death in 2000. After his passing, Christina Howland-Stitt (CPC #810) took over the task that had proven so helpful to Christmas stamp collectors. It is unfortunate that circumstances prevented Christina from being able to continue the work she had so ably undertaken. The current updates -- from 1991 on -- are now done by Patricia Prevey CPC #971. These have incorporated information taken from YULE LOG issues since the last entry in Ev Foster's "Christmas Stamps of the World", after which recent issues by country as they appear in Scott Magazine Monthly are used as the basis for the updated list appearing on this web site. The number of countries has increased from 159 to over 180. The difference can be attributed to the fact that some countries have discontinued issuing Christmas stamps, while others, such as those created through the break-up of the USSR, have begun issuing stamps as independent nations. This current update is not as definitive as the first compilation, having group numbering and descriptions rather than individual ones. This stamp can be used to mail a 1-ounce letter to any country where First-Class Mail International service is available. As with all Global Forever stamps, this stamp will have a postage value equivalent to the price of the single-piece First- Class Mail International 1-ounce machineable letter in effect at the time of use. These stamps can also be used domestically. The stamp art features a photo of a poinsettia. Taken from above, the photo captures the beauty of the green leaves, the red bracts, and the yellow flowers in the center of the plant. Poinsettias are now as much a part of the holidays as evergreens and mistletoe; tens of millions of plants are sold during the season. The art director for this stamp was William J. Gicker. Greg Breeding designed the stamp with an existing photograph by Betsy Pettet. The new Global Forever stamps are being issued in self-adhesive panes of 10. The reception, held last Thursday evening at the Truman Arnold Center on the Texarkana College Campus, showcased ornaments designed by students from across House District 1 in the Lone Star Christmas Celebration Christmas Ornament Contest. The contest and reception were hosted and organized by Rep. George Lavender. Three Awards were given in each of the grade-level categories, K-5 and 6-12, with one chosen as Best All-Around. A complete list of contest winners includes: K-5 Grade Category Best Representation of House District 1 - Syth Armbruster, Cub Scout Pack 7 Best Artistic Design - Mrs. Berry's Kindergarten Class, Nash Elementary Most Original Idea - Mrs. Berry's Kindergarten Class, Nash Elementary 6-12th Grade Category Best Representation of House District 1 - Ms. Sultz Art Class, Maud Middle School Best Artistic Design - Jeremy Williams, Marion County 4-H Club Most Original Idea - Dekalb 4-H Club Best All-Around - Mrs. Berry's Kindergarten Class, Nash Elementary Mrs. Berry's Kindergarten class came up with a design and concept that keyed in on the State Representatives last name, "Lavender" and included a parallel in their ornament description between the "new color of House District 1 and the many new jobs and ideas flowing into our area, said Carolyn Lance, who served as one of the judges.

A typical Pantomime storyline: Normally, a pantomime is an adapted fairytale so it is usually a magical love story which involves something ​ going wrong (usually the fault of an evil baddy) but the ending (often after a fight between good and evil) is always happy and results in true love. Your character is an over-the-top type’, not a real person, so exaggerate as much as you can, in gesture, voice and movement 2. Speak to the audience - if you are a ‘Goody’, your character must be likeable or funny. If you are a ‘Baddy’, insult your audience, make them dislike you from the start. 3. There is always a narrator - make sure she knows speaks confidently and knows the story well. 4. Encourage the audience to be involved by asking for the audience’s help, e.g “If you see that naughty boy will you tell me?” 5. If you are playing that ‘naughty boy’, make eye contact with the audience and creep on stage.

    Holiday postage avoids seasonal sticking point WASHINGTON – During the Christmas season, when Christmas displays and the public outcry against them get almost equal billing, the tiny postage stamp dares to push the envelope, so to speak. The series actually got its start in 1966, four years after the first Christmas stamp debuted with a wreath, two candles and the words “Christmas 1962.” The first religious Christmas stamp owes its origin in part to the lobbying efforts of the late Anthony Coviello, a parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Waterbury, Conn. The 1966 stamp, “Madonna and Child With Angels,” started a trend of Christmas stamps featuring Renaissance paintings. The series was interrupted in 1977 when the Christmas stamp featured a praying George Washington.
