Sex composition was 41.58 % (n=79) female and 58.42 % (n=111) male. Female to male sex ratio of the population was found as 1:0.71. Fork length and weight values of overall, female and male specimens ranged from 11.2-55.5 cm/30.2-2860.5 g, 11.2-55.5 cm/30.2-2860.5 g and 12.7-47.5 cm/44.6- 1846.9 g, respectively. K values varied between 1.204 and 4.008. The average value of its was calculated as 2.155±0.041 for females, 2.138±0.046 for males and 2.148±0.030 for overall. The LWR were determined W= 0.0646*FL2.6613 for females, W=0.0389*FL2.8103 for males and W=0.0528*FL2.7202 for overall. The values of b was estimated as 2.66 (females); 2.81 (males); 2.72 in overall. -

These effects can also lead to a water supply security threats for the end user of water.In another words, water supply security is a very important part of the water security chains and directly depends on operational security of the water supply systems. Turkey has experienced with zebra mussels problems in Atatürk Dam and HEPP since 1997. Zebra Mussels accumulation has also created some problems in Birecik Dam in 2000. DSI (DG State Hydraulic Works) has started the site investigation on monitoring studies in Kesikköprü Dam and Atatürk Dam during years of 2001 and 2002. According to DSİ report (1), in Turkey, 629 small and large dams, 384 irrigation schemes, 98 water supply systems has been opened by State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) since 2005. Private sector has also built 510 river and canal type hydroelectric power plants since 2008. More than 100 small HEPP projects are under construction in different basins. About 550 small dams mainly for irrigation purposes are planned to built in near future. -

Waltina Scheumanna* and Sahnaz Tigrekb aGerman Development Institute E-mail: [email protected] bMiddle East Technical University E-mail: [email protected] The Coruh/Chorokhi river system is of great economic importance to both Turkey and Georgia because of its largely undeveloped but economically exploitable potential for hydropower. On both sides of the border a large number of hydropower projects are being implemented unilater- ally in which private investors play the key role, following liberalisation of the energy sectors in Turkey and Georgia. This has been promoted in both countries, despite the resulting social and environmental costs, particularly in Turkey. Negative effects – i.e., the changes in sedimentation and the river flow regimes – moving from upstream interventions in Turkey to downstream Georgia – have still not been resolved, and they will put electricity generation in Georgia at risk when the hydroelectricity plants start operating. This article explores regional disputes and the degree of cooperation that exists, and analyses the effect that the efforts of relevant actors to establish regional electricity trading are having on the current problems. The creation of a regional electricity market seems to be opening up a new avenue for cooperation also on water.
