Where multiple akodontine hosts occur sympatrically, each host species is accompanied by a morphologically distinct mite population. These host-mite associations were consistent across all localities, implying that A. rotundus is a complex of unrecognized species. RESUMO Androlaelaps rotundus Fonseca (Acari: Laelapidae) associada com roedores akodontinos no Paraguay: um exame morfométrico do ectoparasito pleoxeno Uma análise multivariada de dados morfométricos sugere que o ectoparasito pleixeno Androlaelaps rotundus, composto por distintas populações hospedeiro-associadas, no Paraguai. Quando múltiplos hospedeiros akodontinos ocorrem simpatricamente, cada espécie de mamífero é acompanhada por uma população morfologicamente distinta de ácaro. Estas associações hospedeiro-ácaro repetiram-se nos estudos realizados em diferentes localidades, mostrando que A. rotundus é um complexo de espécies críticas indistinguíveis. Hart1† Abstract Background: The endemic rodent family of Bathyergidae in Africa, particularly South Africa, are understudied as reservoirs of diseases of signifcant medical importance. Considering the diversity and wide distribution of African mole-rats in South Africa, many of these bathyergids could act as carriers of zoonoses. Methods: The present study assessed the ectoparasite community of the Mahali mole-rat (Cryptomys hottentotus mahali). We aimed to identify possible parasitic arthropods that may infest this mole-rat species and explore host preference, contributions of seasonality, host sex and body mass as well as social class and colony size on ectoparasite assemblage prevalence and abundance. Results: A limited number of ectoparasite species were found on C. h. mahali belonging to two signifcant taxa: mites (Acari) and feas, with mites being the most prevalent and abundant. We recorded the presence of X. philoxera, a fea well known as the principal reservoir of plague in the southern African region on the Mahali mole-rats. Only three mite species were collected: Androlaelaps scapularis, Androlaelaps capensis and Laelaps liberiensis. Seasonal peaks in prevalence and abundance of X. philoxera and A. scapularis were observed during summer. Xenopsylla philoxera abundance and A. scapularis loads signifcantly increased on reproductive mole-rat individuals in comparison to non- reproductive individuals.

El estudio de especies de roedores en el estado de Querétaro se ha atendido paulatinamente, no obstante se sabe poco sobre los ectoparásitos asociados. Los ácaros son habitantes comunes de estos pequeños mamíferos, pueden ser encontrados muy profundamente en el pelaje y sobre la piel, en algunos casos los roedores pueden servir como hospederos. Derivado de lo anterior se seleccionaron dos sitios para el trampeo de ratas de campo en el mes de marzo del 2017. Se capturaron roedores del género Peromyscus en ambos sitios, de La Joya–La Barreta fueron atrapados 18 roedores y de La Machorra se consiguió solamente uno. Los ácaros se recolectaron usando permetrina, los hospedantes fueron liberados posterior a la colecta de los ectoparásitos. Se recolectaron un total de 47 ácaros, los cuales, fueron procesados en laminillas y se identificaron cuatro especies: Eubrachylaelaps circularis, Eubrachylaelaps hollisteri, Haemogamasus pontiger y Haemolaelaps glasgowi. Developing tools to effectively measure and understand island ecosystem change is therefore vital to future island conservation management, specifically island communities and the threatened species within them. One increasing utilised island conservation management tool is invasive mammal eradication. Such programs are increasing in number and success, with high biodiversity gains. Typically, it is assumed that the removal of target non-native species equates to management success and in some instances, recovery of a key threatened or charismatic species affected by the pest species are monitored. Investigation of the parasitological fauna of C. erythraeus in Argentina will generate new information about novel parasite–host dynamics and may provide new insight into the reasons for the successful invasion of this species. The objective of this study was to describe the arthropod parasites of C. erythraeus in Argentina in comparison with previous studies of parasites of this species in its native habitat and in the ranges of its invasion.

The study included the population survey of ectoparasites on animal bodies, soil and associated rodents and controling the animal ectoparasites. Results indicated that there is a difference in ectoparasites depending on animal kind, e.g., ticks on cattle, lice on buffalo and fleas on sheep, and the relationship between rodent and animal ecttoparasites was assessed.

As urban sprawl increases, the need for better understanding of anthropogenic effects on songbirds also increases. Humans continue to alter natural environments by introducing non-native plant species and disturbing ecosystems with houses and maintained yards. These alterations have been shown in past studies to not only alter animal behaviors, but to affect what animals are present in a given space. This is particularly concerning given recent studies showing a dramatic decline in arthropod populations globally. I evaluated the relationship between plant communities, human dwellings and arthropod communities found in the nests of a cavity-nesting songbird species, the Carolina Wren (Thryothorus ludovicianus) to establish if species richness of arthropods in microhabitats has been affected by human influence.
