  • Rules and Options
Rules and Options The author has attempted to draw as much as possible from the guidelines provided in the 5th edition Players Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guide. Statistics for weapons listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide were used to develop the damage scales used in this book. Interestingly, these scales correspond fairly well with the values listed in the d20 Modern books. Game masters should feel free to modify any of the statistics or optional rules in this book as necessary. It is important to remember that Dungeons and Dragons abstracts combat to a degree, and does so more than many other game systems, in the name of playability. For this reason, the subtle differences that exist between many firearms will often drop below what might be called a "horizon of granularity." In D&D, for example, two pistols that real world shooters could spend hours discussing, debating how a few extra ounces of weight or different barrel lengths might affect accuracy, or how different kinds of ammunition (soft-nosed, armor-piercing, etc.) might affect damage, may be, in game terms, almost identical. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way Dungeons and Dragons handles such things. Who can use firearms? Firearms are assumed to be martial ranged weapons. Characters from worlds where firearms are common and who can use martial ranged weapons will be proficient in them. Anyone else will have to train to gain proficiency— the specifics are left to individual game masters. Optionally, the game master may also allow characters with individual weapon proficiencies to trade one proficiency for an equivalent one at the time of character creation (e.g., monks can trade shortswords for one specific martial melee weapon like a war scythe, rogues can trade hand crossbows for one kind of firearm like a Glock 17 pistol, etc.).

ESTABLISHED 1879 | COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI C DISPATCH.COM FREE! THURSDAY | JUNE 21, 2018 A banana in-hand MSU alum, convenience store owner gives away Rally Bananas to MSU fans in Omaha BY BRETT HUDSON [email protected] eLone Wilson wanted it known that Mississippi State baseball Dfans joining him in Omaha, Nebraska, for the College World Series were specifically welcomed in his con- venience stores, and he hung a banner outside his downtown storefront to prove it. His wife went a step further: Why not Wilson feed the Rally Banana craze by giving MSU fans free bananas? The Cubby’s parking lot has been packed ever since. Wilson is a MSU grad who is presi- dent of Cubby’s, a chain of convenience stores throughout Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota with 36 locations, accord- ing to its website, most of them around Westburg the Nebraska-Iowa border Omaha occupies. Their downtown store on the corner of South 13th and Jack- son streets, about a mile from TD Ameritrade Park, has been flooded with MSU fans seeking to join the Rally Banana faithful. “We’ve probably given away at least three cases of bananas, I’d say an average of about 120 bananas per case. It’s about 40 pounds per box,” said Dustin Vander Wel, the store’s manager. “I ordered a bunch of extras. We haven’t made it through them yet, but we should.” Cubby’s is one part of what has become a national “thing.” Before MSU’s first game in the College World Series, Dole — one of the world’s biggest distributors of bananas — sent a press release announcing the company’s support of the team’s Rally Banana and picking it to win the national championship.

MONOPSONY IN MANPOWER: ORGANIZED BASEBALL MEETS THE ANTITRUST LAWS* FOR over sixty years professional baseball clubs have disregarded with im- punity the mandate of the Sherman Act I that "competition, not combination should be the law of trade.' 2 By agreeing not to compete for players' ;ervices and by blacklisting those players who turn to higher bidders, a combinatio,, of 335 clubs, known as "organized baseball," has attained a monopsony, or "buyer's monopoly," 3 over the market for skilled baseball talent. Use of this monopsony leverage has enabled the combination to regulate player salaries, exclude *The scope of this Comment is limited to restraints on competition in the purchase of baseball players' services and the selling of professional baseball exhibitions. Because of space limitations, the industry's antitrust problems regarding radio and television will not here be discussed. At the behest of the Department of Justice, the major leagues rescinded agreements restricting competition in the sale of radio and television rights, October 8, 1951.
