LADB Article Id: 064565 ISSN: 1089-1560 Guatemala: Summary Of Fighting, September 4 - October 3 by Deborah Tyroler Category/Department: General Published: Wednesday, October 16, 1991 Sept. 4: Police spokespersons reported that four bombs spreading leaflets by the Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity (URNG) exploded in the capital. No casualties were reported. Sept. 14: According to police reports, rebels detonated two bombs in Guatemala City. No casualties nor material damage were reported. Sept. 29: According to police spokespersons, rebels ambushed a civil defense patrol (PAC) unit on the Guatemala- Atlantic Coast highway. Three PAC members and six civilians were wounded. Oct. 2: In a communique, the URNG reported causing 13 troop casualties and destroying two army tanks near Palin, Escuintla department. Next, two soldiers were wounded on the San Marcos-Quetzaltenango highway. Oct. 3: Military spokespersons reported that four soldiers, four rebels, and two civilians were killed during fighting at Santa Rosa, El Quiche department. Four soldiers and two civilians were killed near Playa Grande, El Quiche. In a communique, the URNG reported damage to an air force helicopter in El Peten department, and confiscation of weapons and other materiel from army units in El Quiche and El Peten. Two soldiers were wounded at Chajul, El Quiche.
