Stxfilms Acquires STUDIOCANAL and the Picture Company's STXfilms Acquires STUDIOCANAL and The Picture Company’s GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE Berlin – February 23, 2020 – STXfilms has acquired North American, Latin and Chinese distribution rights to the star studded female driven thriller, GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE. Written by Navot Papushado and Ehud Lavski and directed by Navot Papushado, GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE tells the story of three generations of female assassins who fight to stop a cycle of violence over the course of one night. Karen Gillan leads the cast which also includes Lena Headey, Angela Basset, Michelle Yeoh, Cara Gugino and Paul Giamatti. The film was financed by STUDIOCANAL and produced by Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman’s The Picture Company. GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE is Papushado’s first English language film and his sophomore follow-up to his Israeli breakout, BIG BAD WOLVES. “Gunpowder Milkshake has found the perfect domestic distributor in STX,” said STUDIOCANAL CEO Anna Marsh. “Produced by our good partners Andrew Rona & Alex Heineman this ambitious high-octane action film boasts a top-class line up of kick-ass and smart female talent who promise to light up audiences worldwide. Adam Fogelson and the team at STX has delivered time and again in this genre with hits such as HUSTLERS and more recently THE GENTLEMAN. Partnering with them on Gunpowder Milkshake will allow us to scale a first-class campaign firmly positioning our film as an event.” The deal was negotiated by STUDIOCANAL’s Anna Marsh, Anne Cherel, Sophie Leuthreau, STX’s Jordan Lichtman and Carolyn Steinmetz and UTA Independent Film Group. The film is now sold out worldwide. After her parents die due to an outbreak of cholera, she is sent to live with her uncle in Yorkshire. Mary starts to spend her days out in nature and almost instantly it has an incredible positive effect on her. Connecting with the people and the world around her she becomes healthier and her attitude drastically improves over time. She discovers the secret garden of her late aunt, and befriends a boy named Dickon, who has a special connection to animals and great gardening abilities. One-night Mary also discovers a boy of her age named Colin living in a hidden bedroom in the manor. She finds out that not only is he sick and unable to leave his bed, but also her cousin. As she gets to know him better, she becomes aware of how spoiled and self-centered he is. After Mary is upfront with him about his negative traits, he then also starts to go outside to the garden, which he had not done in years. Being around nature and friends, Colin’s health and perspective on life starts to change for the better.
