2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships January 11-21, 2021 Las Vegas | The Orleans Arena Media Information and Story Ideas The U.S. Figure Skating Championships, held annually since 1914, is the nation’s most prestigious figure skating event. The competition crowns U.S. champions in ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dance at the senior and junior levels. The 2021 U.S. Championships will serve as the final qualifying event prior to selecting and announcing the U.S. World Figure Skating Team that will represent Team USA at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Stockholm. The marquee event was relocated from San Jose, California, to Las Vegas late in the fall due to COVID-19 considerations. San Jose meanwhile was awarded the 2023 Toyota U.S. Championships, marking the fourth time that the city will host the event. Competition and practice for the junior and Championship competitions will be held at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The event will take place in a bubble format with no spectators. Las Vegas, Nevada This is the first time the U.S. Championships will be held in Las Vegas. The entertainment capital of the world most recently hosted 2020 Guaranteed Rate Skate America and 2019 Skate America presented by American Cruise Lines. The Orleans Arena The Orleans Arena is one of the nation’s leading mid-size arenas. It is located at The Orleans Hotel and Casino and is operated by Coast Casinos, a subsidiary of Boyd Gaming Corporation. The arena is the home to the Vegas Rollers of World Team Tennis since 2019, and plays host to concerts, sporting events and NCAA Tournaments. -

The 2019 season has been filled to the brim with exciting competitions, camps, and shows. Additional events included 12 competitions, 7 local camps, 2 U.S. Figure Skating National Camps, and the first-ever “ISU Synchronized Skating Challenger Competition” in the World! Additionally, the launch of Great Park Ice to our network of facilities has been a true highlight in the Southern California ice sports community. Thank you all for your support in making 2019 a successful year. News From The Edge Dear Skating Friends: Welcome back to News From The Edge, the official newsletter from the Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club. It's been a while for our club to have a newsletter. A huge THANK YOU goes to Ange- Board of Directors: lina Bardin for taking on this task. Our club has been busy and President: our skaters have been busy. We just haven't told everyone about it. Sandy Bowen First of all, congratulations go to Jonathan Lim for achieving his gold medal in Vice President: Adult Moves in the Field in June! And now, as of the August test session, we have THREE brand new gold medalists in dance! Dawn Talkington received her gold April Bardin medal in Senior Free Dance. Both Monica Jackson and Rose Johnson received Secretary: gold medals in Senior Solo Free Dance. You should see their names on our ban- ners very soon. Just waiting for the decals to be finished. We are so proud of all Angelina Bardin of you! Treasurer: The big issues this year in U.S. Figure skating are Safe Sport along with many Devon Beck changes to the organizational structure of the test sessions and competition se- ries. You will continue to hear more about all of these in Skating magazine. The At Large: board is addressing the Safe Sport policies and will put them on the website once Kynda Almefty they are completed. The most urgent change that will impact our club is called Test Refresh. Last year, the testing structure was re-designed to align the free Rabbi Barry Block skate tests with well -balanced programs. -

Sergei Voronov (RUS) topped the podium in the Men’s event, winning his first Grand Prix title. Earlier, Olympic Champions Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir (CAN) easily took the lead in the Short Dance. The NHK Trophy is the fourth of six events of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series 2017/18. A total of 59 skaters/couples from 16 ISU members are competing in Osaka. Virtue/Moir (CAN) set the pace in Short Dance at NHK Trophy The 2010 Olympic champions Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir (CAN) dominated in the Short Dance. Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue (USA) edged out Italy’s 2014 world champions Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte by less than a point for second place. Virtue/Moir put out a fast-paced and characteristic dance to the samba ‘Sympathy for the Devil’, rhumba ‘Hotel California’ and cha-cha ‘Oye Como Va’, executing intricate footwork and a rotational lift with ease. However, Virtue wobbled at the end of the twizzles sequence. -
