SUZUKI METHOD – AND CELLO TUITION

INFORMATION FOR YEAR 1 AND 2 PARENTS

By learning through the Suzuki method, a child can begin to learn a musical instrument at an early age.

The Suzuki method is also known as the “mother tongue” method, which means that children learn to play an instrument in much the same way as they learn to talk – by listening, imitating and repeating, with reading being introduced when a child is older.

The Suzuki method requires the parents to attend the individual lesson and the group lesson in addition to being ‘home teacher’ for practice at home. The child is required to listen to a recording of the repertoire every day. As the child progresses, he/she is introduced to reading, the school and other performing groups in the school.

The Suzuki programme offered at Westburn School begins with 4 – 6 year olds and involves a weekly individual lesson and a weekly group and theory lesson during school time. The cost of these lessons is arranged with the violin/cello teacher. Please complete the form at the bottom of this page if you are interested and you will be contacted with details of a parent meeting to outline the method and the commitment involved.

Thank you.
