Community School for the Performing Arts Welcome to CSPA Strings 2020 Fall Semester! We are so glad to have you! Please take a moment to find out about important dates and policies. The CSPA Strings Program offers violin, viola instruction in the Suzuki method, as well as traditional instruction in violin, viola, cello and double bass. With both instructional approaches, our preeminent faculty members provide exceptional guidance tailored to the individual needs of each student. To this end we’ve decided that it was time to ‘modernize’ our Make-up policy and to bring it in line with our commitment to happy parents, students, and teachers, while maintaining a focus on delivering the best possible experience for all involved. Effective immediately, our new Make-up policy is that all students are guaranteed 2 ‘Anytime Make-ups’ per semester, not limited to illness. The only caveat is that you must still inform the teacher 24 hours or greater. If teachers do not get informed, we cannot guarantee your Make- up. If you exceed your ‘Anytime’ make-ups, we will not be able to guarantee you a make-up lesson. We hope that this makes your experience for make-ups easier, and offers you greater flexibility to enjoy some freedom with other commitments. As always, we really appreciate having you as students and will continue to focus on making your CSPA experience as positive as possible. NEW String Studio Classes (Chamber Music optional): Studio classes are designed for students ages 13 years and up. This is a performance class where students play their ready pieces in front of each other and provide feedback to one another. Also, students will get chances to play chamber music with each other and faculty members. This informal setting develops students' critical thinking and is for intermediate/advanced students. This class will meet every other week beginning the week August 24 or September 7, depending on enrollment. Suzuki String Program: The Suzuki Program incorporates private lessons with group classes. Private lessons allow each child to receive individualized attention and faster pace of skill development while group lessons create a fun and social learning environment and an entirely different skill-set. Parents in this program form a strong bond with their child by attending each lesson and practicing at home with their child. Suzuki is appropriate for students ages 3 and up. The Suzuki method creates a joyful learning environment with parental support; for more about the Suzuki method, please visit: https://suzukiassociation.org/about/suzuki-method/ Our current instructor will complete Suzuki certification in fall 2020. Suzuki Group Classes: Suzuki group classes will be for the students between ages of 4-12. This class includes activities for students and parents (optional), conducted by the teacher. It is for beginner or beginner/intermediate students. The Suzuki Group classes meet on Thursdays for 10 weeks each semester. Suzuki Group may be added on to any CSPA strings registration. We will offer a remote option for class. Facebook Page: Stay updated with our CSPA Strings facebook page.
