Intro Koncerthuset is music. It is sublime architecture, created by one of the worlds most innovative architects and most experienced acousticians. The most important task of Koncerthuset is to provide audiences - Danish and International - with outstanding encounters of live music, in which not only the music itself but also the overall experience is unique and top-notch. On the same time, Koncerthuset is an integrated part of DR - Danish Broadcasting Corporation - the oldest and largest media enterprise in Denmark. The combination of a multimedia corporation and some of the best concert and recording facilities excisting, creates a world of new possibilities. In DR the ambition is always set high, no matter if the aim is to produce ground breaking news, or to give everybody who loves music, a musical experi- ence of the highest possible standard. Koncerthu- set revives this ambition. “ARCHITECTURE IS LIKE MUSIC, DESIGNED TO MOVE OUR SENSES & GIVE US JOY” Jean Nouvel “THE 1,800-SEAT CONCERT HALL(...) IS SURELY THE MOST LUSCIOUSLY ATMOSPHERIC AUDITORIUM IN THE WORLD” The Independent DR Byen/DR City DR – an abbreviation of Danmarks Radio (the Danish Broadcasting Corporation) – is Denmark’s oldest electronic media corporations. DR was founded in 1925 as a public service organization. Today DR is still an independent, licence-funded public-service station that delivers content to all Danes on radio, TV and the Internet, as well as a wide range of musical experiences via DR’s four orchestras and six choirs. Koncerthuset will also be offering unique musical experiences that extend beyond DR’s own ensembles. DR has earlier been spread out over several addresses in Copenhagen, but in 2000 it was decided to gather all DR’s activities in DR Byen in Ørestad, a new district of Copenhagen. DR Byen consists of four buildings, each with its own character, designed within the framework of an overall plan. Four separate architectural competitions were held – one for each segment. The four buildings are linked together by Indre Gade (‘Inner Street’), a glass- covered thoroughfare at second-floor level.
