SCINDIA SHRI SHRIRANG APPA BARNE SHRI KANWAR SINGH TANWAR SHRI ADHALRAO PATIL SHIVAJIRAO SHRI ANANDRAO ADSUL : Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state: (a) whether urban population is increasing and if so, the details thereof, city-wise and the reasons therefor along with its future projections; (b) whether the Government is providing basic facilities such as housing, drinking water, sewerage, waste management and transportation, etc. that commensurate with the increasing urban population; (c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor along with the action taken/being taken by the Government in this regard; (d) the details of proposals received and cleared, funds sanctioned and works undertaken for providing the above facilities during the last three years and the current year, city and State-wise including the number of proposals still pending and the reasons for the pendency along with the time by which pending proposals are likely to be cleared; and (e) whether any assistance has been sought or provided by World Bank and foreign countries for the above basic facilities and if so, the details thereof during the above period? Cont./-- ‐2‐ ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT (SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO) (a): Yes, Madam. The growth in urban population city-wise upto Census 2011 is given in Annexure-I. The reasons for increase are push and pull factors such as availability of employment opportunities, better access to basic facilities including health and education, push factors prevailing in rural areas like poverty, natural calamities like drought and floods and socio-economic factors prevailing in rural areas. As per Report of technical group on population projection of Census of India, the urban population is expected to increase by 38.2% by 2026. (b) to (d): The Government has provided basic facilities such as housing, drinking water, sewerage, waste management and transportation etc. under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) to commensurate with the increasing urban population. The details of the proposals received and cleared etc. during last three years under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) are in Annexure-II. Recently, the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation(AMRUT) was also launched to provide basic services in cities with a population greater than one lakh. (e): Yes, Madam.
