Brian Boyd, a Keen Fan and Supporter of Australian Motorsport, Says He Is Thrilled to Be on Board with the New Team Headed by Volvo Car Australia Media Release PAYCE Signs Sponsorship Deal With Volvo Polestar GRM V8 Supercars Team Sydney, 8th December 2014 Continuing with its support of Australian motorsport, PAYCE has signed a sponsorship deal for the next two seasons of the V8 Supercars Championship with this year’s high- performing Volvo Polestar Racing team. Also joining the team as the driver of the second Volvo S60 will be multi-talented driver, David Wall, who continues a long association with PAYCE. From January 2015, the two-car team will be known as Wilson Security Racing GRM. With PAYCE joining Wilson Security on the Volvo S60 V8 Supercars in 2015, opportunities beyond the race track are already being actively discussed with Volvo Car Australia. PAYCE’s Managing Director, Brian Boyd, a keen fan and supporter of Australian motorsport, says he is thrilled to be on board with the new team headed by Volvo Car Australia. “2014 has seen some big changes in the V8 Supercars field, with Volvo the most successful of the new brands competing,” he said. “I am looking forward to a great relationship with Volvo Car Australia, Garry Rogers Motorsport and Volvo Polestar Racing as they build on their successes going forward. “I congratulate David on securing a ride with this outstanding team and feel sure he will be a great asset to the team and well up to the challenge. “I have followed David’s motor racing career for some years now and he has the ability to quickly adapt to any type of car and to fit in with a new team.” Volvo Car Australia Managing Director, Kevin McCann said: ”We’re delighted to welcome PAYCE to the Volvo Polestar Racing stable. “Like Volvo, PAYCE has a strong heritage in building desirable products and we’re looking forward to working collaboratively with them over the years. “We’ve made a big impact in our debut V8 Supercars season and we’re well into planning for 2015, so it’s an incredibly exciting time to join forces with PAYCE,“ he said. The Melbourne-based team comprises some of the country’s best talent, led by owner and retired touring car champion, Garry Rogers and current lead driver, Scott McLaughlin in car #33. Brian Boyd said he was very impressed with the team’s achievements in its relative short time together. “Despite the Volvo Polestar GRM team only joining the V8 Supercars category this year, the team has exceeded all expectations with its initial win at the Australian Grand Prix support event earlier this year and more through the year,” he said. Brian Boyd said the Garry Rogers Motorsport team possessed a wealth of experience spanning five decades, over which time they have won most major races in the country, including the Bathurst 1000. “Led by Garry, it’s no surprise that Volvo Polestar GRM has quickly developed into a leading team and PAYCE is looking forward to a rewarding, exciting partnership in the coming seasons and welcomes the opportunities the relationship presents,” he said. Auckland Transport have announced they will introduce sweeping changes to speed limits as they signalled some time ago. As I have commented before their rationale is that “inappropriate speed” contributes to 20% of deaths and serious injuries in the Super City. So, from June next year the CBD will be saddled with a blanket 30 kph speed limit, and many of the Franklin and Rodney rural roads will reduce from 100 kph to 80 or 60 kph. A record 11722 submissions were received, of which 2503 were in support, 3317 against and the balance had no firm stance. I could point out that 80% of deaths and injuries have no connection with inappropriate speed. I could surmise that the decision largely flies in the face of public opinion. I could wish them luck in getting public buy-in and compliance. I could question how a major regulatory constraint on all rate payers can be decided by unelected bureaucrats rather than the Council. But frankly, why bother? They are Council Controlled Organisation but seem to have an independence that suggests no Council control exists. I sincerely hope I am proved wrong, but I foresee very little change to the accident statistics and very little adherence to the new limits. Enough said... I have been following the MotoGP with interest this season (yes, I know they are missing 2 wheels) and it’s been well worth it. With World Champion Marc Marquez being given a curry up by the rookie Quartararo, privateer teams often out-performing the factory teams and some scintillating racing it has been great to watch.

The Bathurst race, the track, and the event is very special for me personally and for my family, with my father having tremendous success at this race across his 20 plus years of racing at Mount Panorama. The week kicked off on Wednesday, with a drivers parade through the main street of Bathurst, followed by an autograph session in town. The build up of the event, given the 50 years celebrations, was just massive, and the amount of fans and supporters that attended was simply awesome. The on track activity started on Thursday, with three practice sessions. This year I was driving with the Frenchman, Alexandre Premat, who had never been to Bathurst before, so the main priority on Day one was to give him as much track time as possible, and learn this tricky 6.2km circuit. Alex drove the #33 Fujitsu Commodore in the first and third practice session, while I drove in the second session, because it is a session for the co-drivers only. It was great to get out on the track and we managed the fifth fastest time. It was also good to get into competitive lap times straight away, also because we were on older practice tyres. Traditionally the GRM/Fujitsu cars are very competitive at Bathurst and I felt very comfortable straight away.

It’s the first time in just over 30 years (1984) that three sets of brothers have competed in the Bathurst 1000. The Russells will also become second-generation Bathurst 1000 drivers given their father Wayne, who acts as their team manager, made four starts in the race between 1994 and 1997. The brothers intend to carry #62 as their racing number at Bathurst, the same number their father used in his appearances in the Mount Panorama classic. Aaren Russell, 23, has impressed in recent times in the Dunlop Series with podium finishes in the Plus Fitness Falcon last year at Queensland Raceway and Sydney Olympic Park and again this year at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. His talents and efforts were recently recognised by V8 Supercars Championship team Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport, which gave him his first taste of a current-generation V8 Supercar at the recent Queensland Raceway event during the additional driver practice session.
