You now have the opportunity to join a dynamic institution that is committed to innovation and excellence in education. We take pride in our novel approach to academics and our futuristic outlook, and we look forward to having you join us in this exciting endeavour. Our mission and vision statements are enclosed. Also enclosed is a brochure that highlights key elements of our B Tech programme, and one that describes various academic support initiatives. In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have designed an innovative and student-centric programme for the first year keeping in mind the challenges you are facing in these difficult times, while upholding our commitment to provide a well-rounded education. The first year of your B Tech programme has been divided into three terms and the programme will begin in the online mode. We request you to take necessary steps to prepare yourself to attend the courses online. In particular, please ensure that you have a laptop/computer with necessary data connectivity for a smooth online learning experience. The first term will begin online from 10:00 am on 12th November 2020. The general terms and conditions of your offer are provided in Enclosure 1. Information related to the registration process, payment of fees, and academic schedule of the first year programme are provided in Enclosure 2. We strongly believe that no student should face challenges in pursuing his/her education due to financial constraints. We have therefore created a number of financial aid programs and scholarships (Enclosure 8) to help students with financial needs. Students will be provided with hostel accommodation and access to other facilities of the Institute on their arrival (Enclosure 9). Hostel rooms may have to be shared with other students. Students are not permitted to accommodate guests in their rooms. All guests are expected to make their own arrangements for accommodation outside the campus. IIT Gandhinagar is a green campus, and all members of the community are expected to adopt sustainable use of all resources. In particular, we strongly encourage walking and bicycle use, and use of personal motor vehicles by the students inside the campus is not permitted. IIT GANDHINAGAR ENCLOSURE 1 GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION All admissions are provisional and subject to IIT Gandhinagar being the final allotted institution at the end of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling. In case a candidate is allotted an institution different from IIT Gandhinagar at the end of counseling, this offer of admission will stand void. All admissions are dependent on fulfilment of all academic and non-academic requirements. IIT Gandhinagar reserves the right to withdraw the admission at any stage in case a candidate does not possess the minimum qualifications, does not fulfil any of the requirements detailed on the Institute website/admission offer, or gives any false information. All students must complete and submit a self-declaration of medical fitness form by 11:59 pm on November 12, 2020. All students would also be required to undergo a medical fitness test after arrival at the Institute. A d a a / b. H, I a a - campus clinic that students can visit for minor illnesses and ailments. All students are also provided a modest health insurance cover which includes expenses on hospitalizations up to Rs. 1,50,000. Hospitalization expenses beyond this maximum amount are the responsibility of the student. Students must maintain good conduct, discipline and adequate academic standing (assessed via grades, CPI, etc.) during their stay at IIT Gandhinagar. Non-fulfilment of standards set by the Institute on any of these fronts may result in termination of admission. All students must adhere to all other rules and regulations prescribed by the IIT Gandhinagar, and revised from time to time. Students enjoy the learning experience best when they are challenged. I have often interacted with students, asking them what they thought was the best or worst in a class that they had just attended. And I have often been stumped by their replying that they thought they had “learnt nothing”. Why? I asked them. They said that they did not find the teaching challenging enough. This should leave no one in doubt that we should take another look at the teaching and learning process. Students themselves can be a part of this relook. I have often advocated for student-teachers, often letting them take my own class. The result has been phenomenal, making students involved learners. Only greater involvement on the part of students can ensure their learning. This does not have to happen inside the class always. Sports, extra-curricular activities provide their own challenges. I encourage students to take up these challenges. As these entries show, many of them have indeed taken them up, and realized their enormous potential and talent. Tap your hidden talents and energies. Take up challenges, get involved and enjoy the learning experience Every student is an achiever in his or her own right.     2009 - 2010, Vol II, Issue II October - December 2009 Institute News First Board of Governors of IITGN Formed The Board of Governors of the Institute is now constituted and consists of very eminent academics and researchers, industry leaders, and administrators. The Institute is singularly fortunate to have such eminent persons guide and supervise its growth in the early critical years. Dr R A Mashelkar, FRS Chairs the Board. A renowned academician, Dr. Mashelkar is presently the Chairman of National Innovation Foundation and President of Global Research Alliance. He is credited with the famous transformation of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in India, as its Director General. He was the President of Indian National Science Academy (INSA). Dr Mashelkar has received 27 Honorary Doctorates from the institutions of higher learning around the world, besides numerous fellowships, prizes, awards and top civilian honours: Padmashri (1991) and Padmabhushan (2000). Three very eminent industrialists of India are on the Board: Mr. Suresh Neotia (Chairman Dr R A Mashelkar Emeritus, Ambuja Cements), Mr. Deepak Puri (Chairman & Managing Director, Moser Baer India Ltd.), and Mr. Malvinder Mohan Singh (Group Chairman, Religare & Fortis Healthcare Ltd.). Two seasoned administrators, Shri A K Joti (Chief Secretary, Government of Gujarat) and Sri Ashok Thakur (Additional Secretary, in Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India) are included in the first Board. Prof D V Pai and Prof S L N Murthy are the faculty representatives on the Board, while Prof Sudhir K Jain, the Director is an ex – officio member.
