NOVEMBER 22, 2020 | OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

SCHEDULE OF MASS MESSAGE FROM FR. MARK

SUNDAY MASS Today is the Solemnity Vigil on Saturday - 5:00 pm, 7:00pm of Christ the King, (Spanish) Sunday: 7:00am, 8:45am, which is the grand finale 10:30am, 12:15pm, 2:15 pm (Spanish), of the liturgical year 4:00pm (Distribution of Communion), 2020, during which we 5:00pm have had numerous Bible Studies about the Gospel of Matthew. To DAILY MASS conclude this year of Monday-Friday: 7:00am Matthew, we hear from Saturday: 8:00am the Gospel of Matthew about what will happen

WEEKDAY SPANISH MASS at the end of the world, when the king comes 5:30pm - Tuesday again: “He will sit upon 7:00pm - First Friday his glorious throne, and

all the nations will be

ADORATION assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shep- herd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right 5:45am - Thursday and the goats on his left.” Then it says that we will be judged according to what

we did for the least of our brothers: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I CONFESSION was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” This is 5:00pm: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 9:00am - Saturday the famous last judgment parable from chapter 25 of the Gospel of Matthew.

We began this year with readings from the beginning of the Gospel of Matthew MINISTRY CENTER about how the king was born. The Gospel begins with the genealogy which de- scribes the fact that Jesus was born into the family of St. Joseph and of the Vir- OFFICE gin Mary, who were both of royal blood because he was a descendent of King p. 209-472-2150 David. (Matthew 1:1-16) Jesus is not born into wealth and privilege, however, f. 209-472-0541 because Mary and Joseph were poor, and Jesus was born in a manger. He came e. [email protected] to live like one of us in the human family so that we could all be adopted into a. 6715 Leesburg Pl., Stockton, CA 95207 the “royal family” of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! Each of us has royal dignity. That w. presentationchurch.net is why each of us deserves the dignity of being properly fed, clothed, and cared for as if we were the son of God himself! Our many parish ministries have pro- PRESENTATION vided these services to “the least of our brothers.” Those of us who have been PARISH SCHOOL good servants and stewards have no need to fear when our king comes again in glory. p. 209-472-2140 f. 209-320-1515 We look forward to the eternal jubilee in heaven! e. CONTACTS OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE | NOVEMBER 22, 2020 3

Thus says the Lord God: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. . . . I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. - Ezekiel 34:11-12

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. - Psalm 23:1

..so that God may be all in all. - 1 Corinthians 15:28

Amen I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me. . . . What you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.- Matthew 25:40, 45

Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, gathers all into relationship, a relationship that is so intimate that when we love or do not love others, we are loving or not loving Jesus. It is not just about God and me; it is love that is inclusive of others. Our personal relationship with God spills over into our relationships with ourselves, others, and God’s creation or it doesn’t.

St. John of the Cross notes that “In the evening of life we will be judged on love alone.” May our love for God flow over into concrete, real love of others. May we take seriously the words of Jesus so we will be welcomed into eternal life with the one who has loved us.

I Corintios, 15 - Bíblia Católica Online

Saint of the Week ST. CECILIA THIRD CENTURY | NOVEMBER 22

Cecilia has been honored as a martyr since about 545. According to a written legend, The Passion of St. Cecilia, she was a Roman Christian of the patrician class betrothed to the pagan Valerian. Th e Cecilia Passion has her singing to God in her heart on her wedding day. Cecilia tells Valerian she has made a vow of virginity and persuades him to convert to Christianity and enter into a celibate marriage. His brother, Tiburtius, also becomes a Christian. The brothers are later martyred. When Cecilia refuses to perform an idolatrous act, she too is martyred. Cecilia is the patron of musicians.

“This young Roman martyr invites believers to be watchful on their journey toward the encounter with Christ, gladdening the earthly pilgrimage with the festivity of music and song. May St. Cecilia accompany each of you from Heaven, dear brothers and sisters, and help you to carry out your mission fully in the Church.”— St. John Paul II, November 22, 2003

Live the Liturgy - Inspiration for the Week Readings One day I saw what appeared to be an older woman hunched over with a sign SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22 asking for help. I didn't have much cash to give her, but as I always tell everyone Ez 34:11-12, 15-17/1 Cor 15:20-26, 28/Mt else in my talks, oftentimes what people need more than cash is someone to at 25:31-46 least acknowledge them. I reached into my pocket to give her what little I had and MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23 I simply said, "Hello. I hope you are okay and I hope you can use this." When her Rv 14:1-3, 4b-5/Lk 21:1-4 face turned toward me I saw she was probably only about sixteen years of age and TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24 she was very beautiful. She smiled immediately and said how much this meant to Rv 14:14-19/Lk 21:5-1 her. She gathered up her few belongings and I watched her walk to a café for a WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25 meal. I turned to walk back to my lodging and I thought to myself, "She could Rv 15:1-4/Lk 21:12-19 have been my daughter." THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 26 Who is your daughter or son, your mother or father? Who is your neighbor? Rv 18:1-2, 21-23; 19:1-3, 9a/Lk 21:20-28 Better yet, in whom do you see Jesus? A young homeless girl on the street can take FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27 on so many forms: stranger, neighbor, daughter, and Jesus. Unless we are mindful Rv 20:1-4, 11—21:2/Lk 21:29-33 of those in our midst, we miss the chance to see any of them. We must never be SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28 fooled by appearance.

THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE

On the last Sunday of the liturgial year, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King. The feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI with the encyclical Quas primas. The Holy Father speaks directly to the problem of “anticlericalism,” which seeks to extirpate Chris- tian influence from political life. We see a version of anti- clericalism today, for example, when it is suggested that belief in Catholic teachings renders a person unfit for a judicial appoint- ment. When our nation is beset by civic unrest, racial tension, and a pandemic, we do well to turn to Our Lord, who reigns over eve- ry people and nation.

Jesus shares a law of charity to show the way to communion with God. “Not only do the gospels tell us that he made laws, but they pre- sent him to us in the act of making them. Those who keep them show their love for their Divine Master, and he promises that they shall remain in his love.” –Quas primas, 14

“At the end of our life we will be judged on love, that is, on our concrete commitment to love and serve Jesus in our littlest and neediest brothers and sisters. That mendicant, that needy person who reaches out his hand is Jesus; that sick person whom I must visit is Jesus; that inmate is Jesus, that hungry person is Jesus. Let us consider this.” –Pope Francis

MENSAJE DE PADRE MARK Presentación: Una Familia Real

MASS FOR THANKSGIVING Celebrate Thanksgiving with us with Mass on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at :00 AM (English)

Thanksgiving Prayer This Thanksgiving, let us remember all the good things, and people, who have come into our lives. We focus on thanking each one who has helped us, and ultimately thank God for the good gifts of this world.

Let us pray...

God our Father, Graciously accept from your humble people a thankful heart and spirit. Everything we have and are able to share with others ultimately comes from your love of your creations. Often we think that everything we have is our own creation; we ask you this day to create in us a spirit of gratitude, that we may always know that all good gifts come from you. We ask this through Christ our brother, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
