We visited previously, but what a transformation! The cottages are truly luxurious and welcoming, a real home from home. I S, Hertfordshire

Whatever the weather there is always a warm welcome at Rivermead Farm. P S, Birmingham A few local attractions When you visit Rivermead Farm you are also visiting , an area with a dramatic coastline, captivating fishing harbours and spectactular beaches; and who can forget the famous Cornish pasties and luscious cream teas. One of the most popular attractions, within easy reach, is the Eden Project a gateway into a fascinating interactive world of plants and people; a living Theatre, exploring our global garden inheritance - revealing plants as you have never seen them before. To enjoy your visit, plan to spend the whole day there- there is so much to see. A firm favourite is the Lost Gardens of Heligan near St. Austell. Unveiled in 1992 from under decades of undergrowth, the Lost Gardens were restored on a shoestring budget and hailed by The Times as .. ”the garden restoration of the century” Very close by is Carnglaze Caverns. There are 3 gigantic caverns of The Eden Project cathedral proportions, hand crafted by local slate miners. In the The Lost Gardens of Heligan lower chamber you will find the subterranean lake with its crystal clear blue/green water. Follow the 6.5 acres of ancient woodland walk, or visit the Enchanted Dell. Children will love The Monkey Santuary, which cares for a range of different species of monkeys; all rescued from the UK and international primate pet trades. Visitors will receive an intimate insight into a working sanctuary with keepers on hand all day to give informative talks on the centre’s residents and the wider work of the charity, Wild Futures. If you are feeling active, then visit the which is, arguably, the most successful recreational multi-use trail in the UK, providing access to the beautiful Cornish Countryside along a disused railway line between Wenfordbridge, Bodmin, and Carnglaze Caverns . Kayaking Bodmins Moor’s landscape of granite tors and rugged landscape lends itself beautifully to walking and rambling. There are family friendly walks like the way marked trails at Cardingham Woods, which are also ideal for cycling. You won’t be locked up if you visit Bodmin Jail which has a very dark and sinister past. This ominous and foreboding 18th Century stone building was built in 1176 to house the county prison. This mid -victorian prison was also home to the Crown Jewels, Doomsday book and other national treasures during the Great War. Also near to Bodmin, you will find other attractions such as the Bodmin & Wenford Railway, Pencarrow House and Gardens, Lanhydrock House, the finest house in Cornwall, superbly set in woodland parkland of 450 acres. Slightly further away around St. Austell you can visit Kidzworld, over 54,000sq.ft. of family fun and Charlestown Shipwreck & Heritage Museum, a “working” 18th Century port. The Monkey Sanctuary Cycling on The Camel Trail We will be happy to help you plan your day trips and excursions. Great places to visit when staying at Rivermead Polperro: In Polperro it is easy to step back in time in what is a largely unspoilt fishing village. Pretty cottages cling to steep hillsides around a small harbour, beloved by artists over the years. Its infamous history as a smugglers haunt is told in the harbour side museum, whilst the model village has delighted visitors for many years. Located in The Warren, overlooking the harbour, the Polperro Heritage Museum of Smuggling and Fishing houses a remarkable collection of exhibits and 19th century photographs, as well as many items of memorabilia dating from the 18th century when both smuggling and fishing thrived in Polperro. Looe: Looe is very popular with tourists and still retains its importance as a major Cornish fishing village. Looe has one of the largest fishing Polperro harbour fleets on the Cornish coast and this means that the fish you eat in Padstow harbour the restaurants is as fresh as you can get. Hungry mouths can enjoy great fish and chips, but don’t forget the traditional Cornish Pasty. During the day East Looe beach offers safe swimming, sun bathing or perfect sand for budding castle builders. With all the facilities of the town just behind the beach it makes for an easy relaxing day out with no need to carry tons of supplies miles along a path. Just beyond the main beach, and also at West Looe, the golden sand gives way to rocks and rock pools. Here a whole new world is awaiting those who like exploring, the individual pools changing with every tide. Bright red and green sea anemones wave their many arms in the current whilst tiny shrimps dart for cover under rocks at the slightest movement. Padstow: Padstow is a key port on the North Coast of Cornwall. A quaint fishing village renowned for its famous chefs, Rick Stein, Jamie Oliver and Nathan Outlaw. Sample fine dining at its best, Looe Looe wander through meandering streets, soak up the sun on one of the local beaches or just relax by the harbour and watch the world go by. Cornish Beaches: With a coastline stretching for over 250 miles, Cornwall has no shortage of fantastic beaches and coves. These range from secluded, barely accessible rocky coves to huge expanses of golden sand on the Atlantic coast. Check your map for the many beaches, or look at the Cornwall Beach guide at - www.cornwall-beaches.co.uk. Good examples include Ready Money Cove a small, sheltered, sandy beach, slightly shelving. It is sheltered by cliffs close to the mouth of the River Fowey Estuary and bounded, on one side, by the medieval part of the Fowey and, on the other, by St Catherine's Castle. Par Sands beach is sandy, safe and shallow. Going towards St. Austell, Porthpean Beach is sheltered and popular Porthpean beach with families. Ready Money Cove From take the A38. After approximately 6 miles you will come to the Halfway House Inn on your right. Take the first turning on the right after the inn, signposted 'Mount, Warleggan & Cardinham'. Cross the river bridge and you will find Rivermead Farm after 1/2 mile on the left.
