From masks and social distancing to home offices and virtual meetings, 2020 has certainly been a challenging year. We saw cleaners and disinfectants disappear from grocery shelves overnight. Paper products were scarce and when available, they were rationed. The food supply chain was also dramatically impacted as dining out options were limited, travel virtually came to a halt, and eating three meals a day at home became the norm. With the increase in preparing meals at home, grocery sales soared, and the supply chain struggled to keep up with demand. Amidst the ever-changing situation, the chicken industry relied on their essential frontline workers to restock grocery shelves and ensure that we all had safe and nutritious chicken. The chicken industry adjusted quickly by retrofitting production lines to help with social distancing, providing employees with PPE and temperature screenings, enhancing sanitation procedures, and many other measures to help keep employees safe while they were working to ensure that meat cases were stocked with chicken. While most of these changes were implemented in early Spring 2020, the industry has continued to provide a safe environment for essential frontline workers and to produce safe and wholesome chicken and chicken products.
