Albuquerque, NM 87123-3880 505-301-3790 [email protected] Due to our drier climate, you may want to pack lotion, lip moisturizer, sunscreen and

a hat or umbrella for the sun. With our higher altitude, you need to drink more water while visiting. You may feel a bit lethargic a day or two after arriving due to the

altitude, but this should only be temporary.

OTHER CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS

Monday night will start our Convention with a Fun Filled “Fiesta de la Rosa” Evening. This is for all counterparts, other members and guests. Counterparts WILL be seated together so they may catch up on events from the last year.

Our Tuesday Night Event, the “Western Shuffle”, promises to be an evening filled with good food, camaraderie, and dancing. Wear your western attire if you wish and bring your dancing boots. Check your side arms at the door!

Following Omaha’s wonderful idea of a “pre-performance” buffet we are hosting this event on Friday and

Saturday after Session. This will give all ticket holders an opportunity to enjoy a buffet dinner before going to the evening performances. Limited time usually means no eating and these buffets will be featured as a “come and go” – no formal seating and no hurrying! We are hoping this gives you ample time to enjoy a meal before watching the performances of our fabulous units. What to wear to Sessions and Events “Soaring on Wings of Friendship”

2015 Supreme Session Packet General Information Page 1 of 2

NOTE TO RECORDERS: If not duplicating the whole packet for each attendee, please make sure you

include this page along with any forms you might distribute.

The entire packet can be downloaded at www.daughtersofthenile.com

A Supreme Session Registration Packet can appear a bit over-whelming, particularly to a first time attendee. Take your time and review the Table of Contents to see what activities might appeal to you – then go to that section and read about the activity. If you are still not clear on what forms to complete, please feel free to contact Pr. Jean Serrano or Jacquie Ramirez, PQ at [email protected] .

There are two ways to register for Supreme Session:

 On-Line Registration with Credit Card Payment or Check

 Start the process at www.daughtersofthenile.com. This safe, easy, and fast system provides all members (U.S. or Canadian) and guests the convenience of not only processing your Registration and Housing, but also purchasing tickets to Special Events, Tours, and/or Food Functions. You may complete this process all at once or just obtain your Registration Number, then return to the on-line system to purchase other items. When paying with a credit card, you will receive your registration number quickly. If paying by check, it will take a little longer, as the registration cannot be accepted until payment is received. A receipt will be e-mailed to you, listing all items/functions purchased.

 Mail Registration with Credit Cards (Master Card or Visa), Checks, or Money Orders:

 The entire registration packet is located on www.daughtersofthenile.com, to download and print, or can be obtained from your Princess Recorder.

 If you choose to register through the mail, first send in the session registration form with payment, as a registration number must be received before purchasing any other event items. A non-member registration form may accompany the member’s registration form, and both fees must be remitted on one check or credit card. IMPORTANT - DO NOT SEND CASH IN THE MAIL.

 Checks, money orders, or cashier’s checks are to be made out to Yucca Temple No. 74 SS Fund, U.S. funds only. You may also provide your credit card information and once approved, your registration will be processed. Mail each of the completed event forms, including your registration number, with payment to the respective chairman, as listed on the form. Before mailing, it is important to make a copy of your forms and checks.

 If you wish to be notified of your registration number by e-mail, please provide that information on the form.

 If you wish to be notified by mail, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

The Food Events Committee will be happy to assist you with all of your food functions during your stay in Albuquerque. We will be offering SPECIAL DIET MEALS UPON REQUEST. Daughters of the Nile 99th Annual Supreme Session June 10-14, 2015 Albuquerque, New Mexico

MASS CHORUS BULLETIN Page 1 of 2

I am very honored and excited to have been appointed your Supreme Choir Director for the 99th Annual Supreme Session in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am hoping that MANY of you will choose to participate in the Mass Chorus this year. This is an open invitation to ALL members of the Daughters of the Nile to come and join your voices together in harmony and song to enhance the varied ceremonies at our Supreme Session.

I should probably tell you a little bit about myself. I am a PQ (2012) of Ahlem Temple No. 84 in Springfield, Massachusetts. I was a vocal/choral music educator for thirty years in public schools and have also taught private voice students for many years. I held the position of choir/music director at a church and have sung with and directed many choruses. I have sung professionally for over forty years and continue to share this gift…as long as the voice lets me!! Please consider becoming a participant in this very special group so that we can work together to make beautiful music and have LOTS of fun while doing so!! Please don’t hesitate to contact me at ANY time with questions and/or concerns. I look forward to meeting and working with each and every one of you!!

These are the requirements for participation in the Mass Choir. Each individual must complete a registration form, attend all rehearsals and participate in all performances. Please learn your part BEFORE arriving at Supreme Session. Let me know if you are willing to sing more than one part so that I have the option of moving willing individuals to balance the sound. I promise that no “soprano 1” parts will be too high and that I will arrange all harmonies to be comfortable and simple to learn. Please register below, whether as an individual or a member of a group.

This form serves as your registration for the Mass Chorus and tells me who to mail a music package to:

TOUR OPTION A DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE SANTA FE “THE CITY DIFFERENT” Monday, June 8, 2015 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Travel north to historic and picturesque Santa Fe. Upon arrival, visit the Scottish Rite Temple/Cathedral. This magnificent structure completed in 1911, home of the Scottish Rite Masons of New Mexico, is a replica of the Court of Lions in Alhambra at Granada, Spain, and one of the finest structures in the Southwest. Lunch will be on your own at one of the many fine restaurants in the Santa Fe Plaza area. After lunch take a guided walking tour, visiting such points of interest as the historic Plaza, St. Francis Cathedral, the Loretto Chapel(pictured right), with its famous “miraculous” staircase, and the San Miguel Mission (pictured left). Founded in 1610, Santa Fe was the last stop on the Camino Real, the fabled Royal Road that stretched from Mexico City to the northernmost reaches of the Spanish Empire. Today it is the heart and soul of the Southwest and “Santa Fe Style” is synonymous with all the best the region has to offer. Its historic Plaza, winding streets, covered arcades, hidden gardens and courtyards and Pueblo-style architecture reflect the blending of Indian, Hispanic and Anglo cultures.

You may continue to explore on your own or indulge in a southwestern shopping spree at the many unique specialty stores and galleries around the Plaza. Nearly all the city’s main cultural attractions are also within walking distance of the Plaza, including the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and the Palace of the Governors.

PRICE PER PERSON $79.00

PRICE INCLUDES: Transportation; professional tour guide; walking tour of Santa Fe Plaza area; admission to Loretto Chapel and San Miguel Mission; bottled water on coach; all gratuities and applicable taxes.

42 TOUR OPTION B DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE CALIBERS INDOOR SHOOTING RANGE Tuesday, June 9, 2015 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO FIRE A WEAPON?

THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY.

You will arrive at Calibers Indoor Shooting Range and get first hand guidance on gun safety, and shoot the weapon of your choice. What a great time I had learning the RIGHT way to handle a firearm. Jordan, my Instructor, was a delight to work with. Ray was a Police Officer for many years. We always had guns in the house. He took me shooting many times, but doing it at the Range was a great experience. They teach you how to respect the weapons you are firing. You choose your weapon, buy your ammo and you are all set.

After your shooting spree, you will have lunch at the “Daily Grind”, a restaurant that has been in business for over 20 years. You will order off a menu with 4 different choices.

We hope you take advantage of this tour. Many of you showed great interest in Omaha when Ray and Mark were talking about doing it for the men.

Here’s your chance. LETS DO THIS.

PRICE: $100 plus your ammo

(go in together and share cost)

43 TOUR OPTION C DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE ROUTE 66 TOUR Tuesday, June 9, 2015 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Welcome to Albuquerque, a vibrant and diverse city that offers culture, history, science and a whole lot of fun! The Duke City is also the site of a significant stretch of Route 66, America’s most celebrated highway, which carried the people and energy that shaped the modern Southwest. In Albuquerque you will find treasures and traces along many miles of Route 66 as it ran from east to west through the city on Central Avenue. Whether you are out to capture magic from the past or have a first-time Route 66 adventure, enjoy the fascinating blend of roadside architecture that mixed tourist services with locally oriented businesses.

Begin with a driving tour of Route 66 landmarks, from the historic Nob Hill business district to downtown and then on to Old Town. You will see some of the tourist courts still in operation today, including the Aztec Motel (1931) and the El Vado Court (1937), both of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. Your guide will also point out the cafes, gas stations, motels and stores that are part of the history and local color of this region.

Next, take a tour of the jewel of downtown Albuquerque - the Pueblo Deco-style KiMo Theater, built in 1927 when movie madness was sweeping the country and designing movie theaters became a unique specialty. The movie palaces from this era represent some of the “richest and most extravagantly romantic architecture this country has ever produced.” What sets the KiMo apart is its lavish use of Native American elements to ornament and embellish the structure.

Stop for a hosted lunch at the High Noon, one of Albuquerque Old Town’s oldest buildings built in the late 1700’s.

Continue on to Old Town and take a brief walking tour of the historic Plaza area. Old Town, the original center of Albuquerque, was founded in the early part of the 18th century and includes San Felipe de Neri church and many historic buildings that form an architectural record of this city’s unique past. Your guide will provide maps of Old Town and suggested restaurants for lunch on your own.

PRICE PER PERSON $84.00 PRICE INCLUDES: Transportation; professional tour guide; lunch; guided tour of the KiMo Theater; Old Town; bottled water on coach; all gratuities and applicable taxes. ^Price above does not include alcoholic beverages with meal.

Travel to the foothills of the Sandia Mountains for a ride on the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway, one of the world’s longest free- span cable tramways! The 2.7-mile tramway ride to the top will take you through four of the seven life zones found in North America. Traversing these zones is equivalent to taking a trip from Mexico City to Alaska! Once atop Sandia Peak, at an elevation of 10,378 feet above sea level, you will marvel at the thousands of square miles of breathtaking scenery and panoramic views in all directions.

Next stop is the Sandia Resort & Casino. 49 TOUR OPTION I DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE ACOMA “SKY CITY” PUEBLO Monday, June 15, 2015 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Your destination today is Acoma Pueblo, known as "Sky City", located in the spectacular West-Central Plateau of New Mexico. Acoma Pueblo, situated 350 feet above an outstretched valley atop a massive sandstone mesa at 7,000 feet above sea level, is the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the United States. Archeologists put the initial occupation of the Pueblo around 1150 AD. The first Europeans, led by Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, visited Acoma in 1540.

A Pueblo member will take you on a ¾-mile leisurely guided tour of the village, explaining the culture and history of the tribe. Points of interest include San Estevan del Rey Mission, built in 1629, the largest and most remarkable of all the Spanish Colonial mission churches in New Mexico. All building materials for the church and other structures in the village were carried or hauled great distances by hand, then up the steep slope of the mesa. The 360-degree views from Acoma are breathtaking and offer many photo opportunities.

The tour includes a camera permit, but note that the use of tripods, video cameras, digital video cameras, binoculars and audio recording devices is prohibited. No photography is allowed inside the Church and within the cemetery courtyard. Permission must be obtained prior to photographing tribal members or their artwork.
