BWTB Sept. 13Th 2015
1 2 Playlist Sept. 13th 2015 9AM/OPEN The Beatles - I’m Only Sleeping - Revolver (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Written by John and Paul at Kenwood, John’s estate in Weybridge, in one writing session. Recording of the backing rhythm track began at 11:30 p.m. on April 27, 1966. John recorded his lead vocal on April 29. Both the vocal and backing track were recorded at variable speed. It was during the recording of “I’m Only Sleeping” that The Beatles discovered the “backwards guitar.” On May 5, 1966, as the band continued working on the song, George painstakingly transcribed the notes in his guitar solo and flourishes and then wrote them out backwards. He then played them in that reverse order. The tapes were then superimposed BACKWARDS in the mix, playing the solo notes and embellishments in the correct order, but maintaining the eerie backwards sound. “I’m Only Sleeping” was one of three songs issued in America six weeks prior to their official release in the UK. American and Canadian Beatles fans heard “I’m Only 3 Sleeping,” “And Your Bird Can Sing,” and “Doctor Robert” first on Capitol Records’ “Yesterday And Today” album, issued June 20, 1966. The rest of the world had to wait until the first week of August for them to appear on the “Revolver” LP. On U.S. album: Yesterday And Today - Capitol LP The Beatles - Fixing A Hole - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul On February 9, 1967, the Beatles recorded “Fixing A Hole” at Regent Sound Studio on Tottenham Court Road in London. -

It will happen through individuals who allow their own lives to be transformed—their own inner source of knowing to be awakened and expressed.” —Yogi Amrit Desai NOTE: See also the “Counseling” bibliography. Calcutta: Ramakrishna Vedanta Math, 1960, 1983. “This volume comprises lectures delivered by Swami Abhedananda before a[n] . audience in America on the subject of [the] Yoga-Sutras of Rishi Patanjali in a systematic and scientific manner. “The Yoga Psychology discloses the secret of bringing under control the disturbing modifications of mind, and thus helps one to concentrate and meditate upon the transcendental Atman, which is the fountainhead of knowledge, intelligence, and bliss. “These lectures constitute the contents of this memorial volume, with copious references and glossaries of Vyasa and Vachaspati Misra.” ___________. True Psychology. Calcutta: Ramakrishna Vedanta Math, 1982. “Modern Psychology does not [address] ‘a science of the soul.’ True Psychology, on the other hand, is that science which consists of the systematization and classification of truths relating to the soul or that self-conscious entity which thinks, feels and knows.” Agnello, Nicolò. -
Ally Advocacy, Identity Reconfiguration, and Political Change
ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: “THE FIGHT IS YOURS”: ALLY ADVOCACY, IDENTITY RECONFIGURATION, AND POLITICAL CHANGE William Howell, Doctor of Philosophy, 2020 Dissertation directed by: Dr. Trevor Parry-Giles, Department of Communication Since at least 1990, scholars and activists have used the term “ally” to describe and theorize a distinct sociopolitical role: someone from a majority identity group working to end that group’s oppression of another identity group. While the term is recent, “allies” are present throughout America’s constant struggle to actualize equality and justice. The identity-rooted ideologies that empowered allies disempowered the groups for and with whom they sought justice and equality. But those empowering identities were pieces, more or less salient, of complex intersectional people. Given the shared nature of identity, this process also necessarily pitted allies against those with whom they shared an identity. In this project, I ask two questions about past ally advocacy—questions that are often asked about contemporary ally advocacy. First, in moments of major civil rights reform, how did allies engage their own intersecting identities—especially those ideologically-charged identities with accrued power from generations of marginalizing and oppressing? Second, how did allies engage other identities that were not theirs—especially identities on whose oppression their privilege was built? In asking these two questions—about self-identity and others’ identity—I assemble numerous rhetorical fragments into “ally advocacy.” This bricolage is in recognition of rhetoric’s fragmentary nature, and in response to Michael Calvin McGee’s call to assemble texts for criticism. I intend to demonstrate that ally advocacy is such a text, manifesting (among other contexts) around the women’s suffrage amendment, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the marriage equality movement. -
Download Our 2018 Festival Program
The Artemis Women in Action Film Festival 2018 Welcome to The Artemis Women in Action Film Festival! Our team is incredibly proud to offer the fourth edition of a singular and very special event - one dedicated to female action and empowerment heroes. This has been one truly groundbreaking year: We've seen a female superhero shatter records at the box office, the first women join the elite Rangers in the US Army, women speaking out about pressing issues, and so much more. An incredible year to be sure. The festival continues to grow – this year we received more submissions, have more screens and additional panel discussions, and just generally more kick-ass women. If you love movies, we have a great weekend for you! Our festival this year includes a stellar array of over 75 films: Shorts and feature length films, fiction and documentaries, all covering a huge variety of subjects and genres, and all focusing on powerful women. Some use their fists while others use their minds to make the world a better place, and then they use all their resources to execute those strategies turning dreams into reality. The Artemis Awards Gala continues the tradition of recognizing the great talents that continue to revolutionize the female action genre: Michelle Rodriguez, Ming-Na Wen, Rosemary Rodriguez, TJ Scott, Dana DeLorenzo, Debbie Evans, Alicia Vela-Bailey, Kachina Dechert, Danielle Burgio, Heidi Pascoe, and Cassandra Ebner. They are badasses behind the screen and on it, warriors and heroes proving that women can do anything. Our enormous gratitude to the dedicated people who make this festival possible. -
Shows Promise
ntertarnment I THE CHANTICLEER Jacksonville State University Jacksonuille. Alabama England trip shows promise ByJANET PARNELL ’rred ofthe Same old hum-drum summer vacation? Sure, it is great to be out of classes, but what to do’! Even though the summer of 1985 is far from being just around the corner, it would not hurt to plan ahead. The English department is ottering a summer jaunt to England which just might be worth looking into. ‘I’he University in conjunction with the English Department will offer a program ol study in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, from June 10-July . 2,1985 tor students and faculty. The potential traveller will be able to enjoy plays at the Hoyal Shakespeare Theatre, hear lectures, visit such places as &akespeare’s Birthplace, and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, and make sightseeing trips to other places of interest. The student will also be able to earn six hours of graduate or undergraduate credit in English for courses in Shakespeare and Shakespeare’s England. The trip will bethe sixth suchexcursion. Ur. Evelyn McMillan of the English Department believes that the England program of study is not only a “great bargain” but a great experience. As stated by Dr. McMillan, “You actually live in the place and get to how the town as the local people do.” ‘l’hs is in reference to the accommodations at the guesthouses in the town. Dr. McMillan further added that on past trips after the first week the students began to speak of how “tourists” act; the students no longer feel like just tourists. -
