But they will. We also look to a day when we will have got on top of Covid and will be free to go out and do all the things that we have not been able to do for most, if not all, of the past eleven months. But what will that be? Each of us probably has thoughts sitting somewhere in our minds about what differences there will be when we can get out and be “normal” once again. In church history it is often the case that can turn to God in times of crisis and leave him out when things go well. This has not happened so much during Covid among older people, although there is evidence that younger adults have been inquiring about the faith in increasing numbers through connecting with online ministry. Many of us have put our trust in the NHS to be a complete solution and plan to resume life in as close a manner as possible to what it was a year ago. This would be an unhappy waste of a golden opportunity. We have had the chance to call a halt to our every social habit and pattern that we had this time last year; we have the chance to establish a “new normal” in our lives. If we are going to have a lifestyle that makes God happy and brings a smile to his face, we will need to move ourselves away from the centre of our lives and put Jesus there instead. To stimulate our thinking and prayers I have submitted some news articles from Premier News. You can get their daily bulletins by email and I would encourage you to sign up. In their integrity Premier do feature adverse as well as positive news stories. This helps to remind Christians of the challenge to maintain their faith and not allow the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil to trip us up. I would strongly recommend Premier’s work as a great way to be informed about the work of the Church and the challenges we face. The Lord lead you forward through 2021. The Real Easter Egg The UK’s top supermarkets will not be stocking The Real Easter Egg in 2021. For the past ten years Tesco, Waitrose, ASDA and Morrisons have made room on their shelves for The Real Easter Egg. However, the pandemic led to the supermarkets having a disastrous Easter as people stayed away from high streets. This year, supermarket buyers were told to cut brands, reduce the volumes and in some cases ask for stock to be supplied at a loss or cost price. It means there will be fewer brands, including the Real Easter Egg, on their shelves this Easter. So if you are one of the 80,000 people who usually buy a Real Easter Egg from a supermarket or have friends who do then spread the word: Buy online. I keep feeling that I’m lost” “Well if you’re lost then so am I” Agreed the crocus ’neath the trees, “I woke up last week then went back to sleep When I felt snowflakes on the breeze”. February was almost over, March about to come But all the bulbs were shivering, Their petals were quite numb, Only the tiny snowdrops Seemed prepared to take a bow, They all agreed something was amiss, We should all be blossoming now”. “Our friend, hedgehog is still asleep” Remarked the narcissus, shivering, “If he begins to wake up now His little spines will soon be quivering, Even the ducks and geese aren’t laying eggs At the farm down by the brook Robin Redbreast told me yesterday When he flew down to take a look” One morning suddenly brought change, A hint of warmth came with the sun, The bulbs looked up expectantly “Maybe Winter’s almost done” Across the fields came the sound of bells. A joyful peal that all could hear For with the coming of an Easter morn Came the tidings “Spring is here”. L M Wadlow From Premier News Tribute Bobby Ball (1944-2020): Comedy legend, evangelist and friend 29th October 2020 The much loved comedian Bobby Ball has passed away, after being diagnosed with Covid-19. Chris Gidney was his biographer, producer and friend. He pays tribute to a man whose life was dramatically changed by an encounter with Christ. I still remember when Bobby Ball burned down the Chelsea apartment he was staying in while performing in a Pantomime at the London Palladium. As one half of comedy duo Cannon and Ball, opposite his friend and colleague Tommy Cannon, the duo's primetime Saturday night television series The Cannon and Ball Show, was one of ITV's most successful series in the 1980s, with consistently high viewing ratings. Their summer seasons and pantomimes were sold out months in advance and starring live at the Palladium for many weeks was always a highlight. However, on this occasion, Bob was so focussed on the Palladium show that he left the chip pan still on the stove. By the time he came back several hours and two performances later, there was nothing left of the chip pan.... or the flat! Bobby was always such fun to be with. Always a joker, but with a serious side to him, he had a heart of gold and cared very much about others he met. When I was producing Bobby & Tommy's gospel shows, we would arrive at a theatre and Bob would go straight up to the crew and ask, "Are you a Christian then?" We all cringed, but I suppose Bob couldn’t understand how people got through life without faith, and wanted to share his faith in the same what that you would tell your friends about a bargain buy, or great film you'd just watched. The gospel shows were a product of Bobby's passion to make sure everybody knew what Christianity offered, and what it had done for him personally.
