Beat Leganes 4-2 and Corentin Tolisso - Who Made His France Debut Last Week - Capped Lyon’S Win with Late Goals
Sports FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 2017 43 ITALIAN CUP Higuain takes Juve to final despite defeat ROME: Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain scored twice to send former club Napoli crashing out of the Italian Cup semi-finals on a night of bitter emotions on Wednesday. Napoli won the second leg 3-2 but it was little consolation after they had been soundly beaten 3-1 in the first match in Turin as Juventus moved into a final against Lazio. Whistled and jeered throughout the 1-1 Serie A draw at the same San Paolo ground at the weekend, Argentine star Higuain responded in deadly fashion on Wednesday against the club he controversially quit in the summer. When he opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a right foot shot, Higuain couldn’t disguise his anger at his treatment, running to celebrate in front of the VIP box and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. Higuain made a gesture to the box, indi- cating that the Napoli chief was to blame for his departure. Marek Hamsik leveled for Napoli after 53 minutes before Higuain netted his second just five minutes later from a cross by Juan Cuadrado. Substitute Dries Mertens equalized again for Napoli before Lorenzo Insigne added the winner on the night for the home team even though it proved in vain. The aggregate win gave Juventus a place in the Italian Cup final for the third successive year and on course for a Serie A and Champions League sweep. Next week, Massimiliano Allegri’s team face Barcelona in the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier MADRID: Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio vies for the ball with Leganes’ Martin Mantovani (right) during a Spanish La Liga club tournament. -

“WOLVES WOMEN CHAMPIONS” SPONSORED BY LONDON WOLVES INSIDE THIS ISSUE l From the Chair l Wolves’ News l Social News l Match Reports l Travel Details July 2017 FROM THE CHAIR WOLVERHAMPTON Hi and Greetings to Everybody, WANDERERS LONDON SUPPORTERS CLUB The season fizzled out with a dull thud, rather than with Honorary Life President a huge bang as many had hoped. The penultimate Derek Dougan home match against Blackburn was rated in some 1968-2007 minds (mine included) as the worst performance Honorary President witnessed in many years of following Wolves. John Richards Chairman Yes there were injury problems, but I feel that the real reason was too many Stuart Earl new faces were thrown together in the expectation that they would form a Deputy Chairman good side. Stef Leonard There were of course some pluses. The form of Dave Edwards and Helda Honorary Members Sir Jack Hayward OBE Costa, and the emergence of some promising young talent. The fine away 1923-2015 performances, especially in The FA Cup were a pleasure to watch, but home Steve Bull MBE performances did little or nothing to give cause for hope. Secretary Dave Slape Our annual “Meet the Players” was a huge success, for which I thank Paul Lambert Treasurer and the lads, who were all engaging and receptive with the near forty members Carol Randall who turned out on the evening prior to the Fulham game at Craven Cottage. Travel Secretary Peter Woodifield At the end of the season new owners Fosun decided to appoint a new manager Entertainment Officer which meant Paul Lambert’s departure from Wolves and the arrival of new Roy Eagles Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo, to whom we extend a huge London Wolves Minutes Secretary welcome. -
