1 AN ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION commending and congratulating the 2 U.S. Women’s National Team on its 2019 FIFA Women’s World 3 Cup championship. 4 5 WHEREAS, Interest in and passion for the sport of women’s soccer 6 continues to grow in New Jersey and across the United States; and 7 WHEREAS, The record breaking viewership for the 2019 FIFA 8 Women’s World Cup is evidence of this growing support and fan 9 interest in women’s soccer; and 10 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team entered the 2019 FIFA 11 Women’s World Cup as the number one ranked team in the 12 tournament; and 13 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team went undefeated during 14 the group stage of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament, 15 defeating Thailand, Chile, and Sweden in shutout matches; and 16 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team scored a total of 18 17 goals over the course of its three group stage matches; and 18 WHEREAS, After advancing to the knockout phase of the tournament, 19 the U.S. Women’s National Team went on to defeat Spain, France, 20 and England before defeating the Netherlands in the final match; 21 and 22 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team defeated the 23 Netherlands 2-0 in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup final to 24 win the team’s fourth Women’s World Cup championship; and 25 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team’s 2019 FIFA Women’s 26 World Cup championship victory marked the team’s second 27 consecutive Women’s World Cup championship title; and 28 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team scored a total of 26 29 goals over the course of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup 30 tournament; and 31 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team broke numerous 32 records during the tournament, including scoring the most goals in a 33 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament, scoring the highest margin 34 of victory in a FIFA Women’s World Cup match, and scoring the 35 most goals in a World Cup match; and 36 WHEREAS, is a native of Delran, New Jersey; a graduate 37 of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; and scored 3 goals 38 over the course of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament; 39 and 40 WHEREAS, is a native of Basking Ridge, New Jersey and 41 she played in six of the U.S. Women’s National Team’s winning 42 matches during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup; and 43 WHEREAS, The U.S. Women’s National Team consistently embodied 44 American and New Jersey values through its display of fortitude, 45 determination, and sportsmanship during the 2019 FIFA Women’s 46 World Cup tournament; now, therefore,

1 BE IT RESOLVED by the General Assembly of the State of New 2 Jersey: 3 4 1. The General Assembly of the State of New Jersey 5 commends and congratulates the U.S. Women’s National Team on 6 its 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup championship. 7 8 2. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State 9 shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the 10 U.S. Soccer Federation. 11 12 13 STATEMENT 14 15 This resolution commends and congratulates the U.S. Women’s 16 National Team on winning the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup 17 championship. 18 As evidenced by the record number of fans who traveled to 19 France to support the U.S. Women’s National Team in the 2019 20 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament, enthusiasm and support for 21 women’s soccer continues to grow in New Jersey and across the 22 United States. 23 The U.S. Women’s National Team has been a dominant force in 24 international women’s soccer dating back to 1985 when the team 25 was established. Since its inception, the U.S. Women’s National 26 Team’s fortitude and determination has helped it win four Women’s 27 World Cup championship titles, four Olympic gold medals, eight 28 Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean 29 (CONCACAF) championship titles, 10 30 titles, and two SheBelieves Cup titles. The U.S. 31 Women’s National Team’s superior skill and resolve was once 32 again on display throughout the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup 33 tournament, where the U.S. Women’s National Team broke 34 numerous records on its path to victory. 35 Through both their on- and off- the field achievements, the 36 members of the U.S. Women’s National Team exhibit New Jersey 37 and American values while bolstering interest in women’s soccer 38 and inspiring female athletes across the nation. 39
