What does your family usually have for Easter Sunday Dinner? When most people think about spring, what comes to mind? Cool morning air or the sweet dew smell from the leftover night rain or most commonly, the beauty of spring flowers. One of the most popular spring flowers is the Easter Lily. Ranging in many colors, these beautiful blooms first originated in Japan and later arrived in England in the late 18th century. The U.S. only caught onto the trend after World War I. The transition from dormant bulbs to delicate flowers brings to mind hope and rebirth, two important themes of the day. We Can Thank Germany for the Easter Bunny According to some sources, the Easter bunny first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania. They then transported their tradition of an egg-laying hare called “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Their children made nests (Easter Basket) in which this creature could lay its colored eggs. Eventually, the custom spread across the U.S. and the well known rabbit’s Easter morning deliveries expanded to include chocolate and other types of candy and gifts. Children began to leave out carrots for the bunny in case he got hungry from all his hopping. Easter Baby Bunny April Poem It’s spring! Farewell to chills Abandon sleep, and colds!
