Kerry Annal (24) from Orkney has been announced as the winner of the Young Livestock Ambassador award, run by Quality Meat Scotland, SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) and the Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland. Kerry, who demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm for the livestock industry, was selected as the winner in an initiative launched as part of the celebrations for Scotland’s Year of Young People. Kerry received a lifetime membership of RHASS, including free entry to the Royal Highland Show. An impressive 189,851 visitors flocked to the Royal Highland Show this year, continuing to demonstrate the appeal of Scotland’s iconic celebration of farming, food and rural life. The Royal Highland Show continues to attract key elected leaders from across the political spectrum including Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell MP; Fergus Ewing MSP, the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Connectivity and Ruth Davidson MSP, Leader of the Conservative party in Scotland. This reinforces the importance of the Royal Highland Show on a political level and we are proud to host these influential individuals in what are crucial times for our industry. International visitors e continue to see an increase in global interest in Wthe Royal Highland Show with 765 international visitors registering at the International Visitors Centre this year, with the highest numbers coming from the USA, New Zealand, Australia and Ireland. This year, to celebrate our international visitors, we held a special reception with an incredible range of countries represented. As well as a delegation from the Agricultural Society of Kenya, we also welcomed visitors from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, France, Brazil, Japan, Italy, Canada, Haiti, Finland, Denmark, Kenya, UAE, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Argentina, Sweden and Tasmania. This Illustrates that the Highland Show is truly an internationally-recognised event and a great platform for our industry to a global audience.
