Communications are excellent with the A303 with its convenient access to London and rail connections from Castle Cary to Paddington and Templecombe to Waterloo. Historical note Cadbury means Cada's fort and refers to Cadbury Castle which is immediately to the south west of the village and adjoins Saxon Hill. It is a vast Iron Age hill fort covering an area of around 20 acres (8 ha) and has seen occupation from Neolithic times until the late Saxon period. It was famously partially excavated in the 1960s, when, amongst other things, an Arthurian period feasting hall was discovered. Coupled with local traditions from the 16th century of a connection with King Arthur there is widespread belief this is the location of Camelot. Saxon Hill sits at the base of Cadbury Castle and is named following excavation of the site which revealed Saxon finds. On the other side of the property is South Cadbury parish church which dates from the 13th and 15th centuries and is dedicated to Thomas Becket. Saxon Hill is on the southern side of the village accessed from a quiet country lane. A gravelled drive leads into the property and to the house which sits comfortably and well sheltered within it's gardens. It has been extended and now has very roomy accommodation with oil fired central heating with radiators and partial double glazing The entrance hall leads to the sitting & dining room which is a generous triple aspect room with a stone fireplace and lovely garden views. The kitchen has a good range of units with a laminate work surface, a big larder cupboard, stainless steel sink, integrated cooker, 4 ring electric hob and space for dishwasher and fridge freezer. Off the kitchen is a utility area with a sink and space for a washing machine. An inner hall leads to the bedrooms and bathroom. The large master bedroom has a double aspect, built in wardrobes and an en suite bathroom with a bath, basin in a vanity unit and wc. There are 2 other bedrooms, both with fitted wardrobes and one currently used as a study. The bathroom is tiled and has a shower unit, bath, basin, tiled splashbacks and a wc. An easy tread staircase leads to an 18 ft. dual aspect family bedroom with glorious views and an en-suite bathroom with a bath, basin and wc. Outside. The house has an integral double garage with workshop space, window, water, light and power and offers scope for further development of the house subject to all consents. The gardens of Saxon Hill are absolutely charming and reflect many years of careful tending and planting. There are lawns, flower and shrub beds and mature trees which settle the property into the landscape and give it a very high level of privacy. In addition there are two stone built sheds, a wooden summerhouse and a greenhouse. Directions: On entering South Cadbury proceed past the Camelot pub (on your right).
