Media information BNP Paribas Zurich Open: Mark Philippoussis replaces the injured Stefan Edberg Zurich, 2 March 2011 – Reigning champion Stefan Edberg has been forced to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Zurich Open six days before the start of the tournament due to a hip injury. Australia's Mark Philippoussis will take his place in what is an already very strong field. Stefan Edberg was distraught to have to inform the tournament organisers that he will not be able to defend his title in Zurich due to a not yet cured hip injury. „It was a very difficult decision to take. I had a fantastic week last year in Zurich”, told the reigning champion. His place in the top-class field will be taken by the winner of the opening ATP Champions Tour 2011 event in Delray Beach (USA) and current ATP Champions Tour No.1-ranked player Mark Philippoussis. Philippoussis is a former Wimbledon and US Open finalist and winner of the Davis Cup and Hopman Cup with Australia. The strong-serving righty will be playing alongside Pete Sampras, John McEnroe, last year's finalist Goran Ivanisevic, Thomas Muster, Tim Henman, Michael Stich and Henri Leconte as well as eight of the top ITF U18 juniors in the world. The various players will all be present on Tuesday 8 March 2011 at the opening ceremony in the Saalsporthalle.
