  • Indie Daze 4 Press Release
INDIE DAZE Returning to the O2 Forum Kentish Town for a fourth consecutive time, Mute Elephant proudly announce the next instalment of Indie Daze : 8 great bands, 1 stage, 1 day. Continuing the tradition of compacting the best of old-skool independent music and creating the kind of event you wish had happened years ago, “Indie Daze 4” is the best Festival you never saw when you were younger, set in Central London, with an 11.30pm finish, lots of food, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere you need for a great day out (and in) with lots of friends you haven't met yet. Broadening the appeal from previous events, 2017 sees The House Of Love headline with their first London show in four years, and return to the site of their legendary 'Doing It For The Kids' show in 1988 with a special, and unique, set that revisits their Creation period from the first single “Shine On” to “Destroy The Heart”, and many places in-between. This is their biggest headline show in London in 25 years - there's not been a show like it, and there probably won't be again. Also back are Voice Of The Beehive with the first show from their classic, original line up in 25 years (including Woody on drums having a couple of days off from Madness), promising to bring their sorely-missed wit, wisdom and general wonderfulness back to the stage. Expect all the songs you want and a few surprises! Continuing the trend of bands you thought you might never see again, Apollo 440 break cover for their first UK show in over a decade, bringing back to the live stage the classic lineup with the return of Pop Will Eat Itself frontman Mary, and an assortment of hits that are timeless and utterly irresistible.

  • So You've Been Musically Shamed
WILLIAM CHENG Dartmouth College Email: [email protected] So You’ve Been Musically Shamed ABSTRACT In July 2014, an anonymous source leaked the raw audio of Britney Spears’s confessional ballad “Alien.” Haters pounced on this star’s denuded voice, gleefully seizing on the viral artifact as a smoking gun for Spears’s deficits and for the pop industry’s artistic fakeries more broadly. My paper situates this flashpoint of Spears-shaming within late-capitalist archives of public humiliation, cyberleaks, and the paternalistic scrutiny of women’s bodies and voices. In the video’s comment threads, view- ers’ strident pronouncements of aching ears and melting brains swirled in a chorus of mockery. BreezeJames Nfadison Univeisity THURSDAY APRIL 22,1993 VOL 70, NO. 50 Peer groups may handle town gripes with students by MJ Carscallen senior writer JMU students and Harrisonburg police are devising a plan to improve relations between the off- campus student population and permanent residents of Harrisonburg. The Student Government Association, Commuter Student Council and the Interfraternity Council have proposed a plan to establish student liaisons to assist in settling any complaints town residents make to the Harrisonburg police department about students. "It is important that we as students can deal with our problems ourselves," SGA Administrative Vice President Scott Surovell said. "I thought peer KATHY ALCORN/THE BREEZE pressure would be more effective at stopping [disruptive behavior] rather than always dealing with a paternal figure like the police."
