6-week, full-day program for teens ages 13-17, with a stipend.*

Teens become experts on the six BCAP partner institutions, while learning skills in new media, communications, and leadership. Our home base is BPL Central Library's beautiful new Shelby White and Leon Levy Information Commons learning lab. Only 20 spots are available this year, and teens must submit an application. Who Should Apply? Teens ages 13-17 with an interest in... • Learning about topics like photo, film, journalism, and new media • Exploring 6 awesome cultural institutions in the heart of Brooklyn • Being a leader for kids, peers, and the community • Setting goals for your future and achieving them • Being creative, having fun, and meeting teens from across the city • Committing to doing this for 6 weeks, Monday-Friday, 9am-3:30pm • Earning a stipend* (ages 14+ only)

Basic Info Dates: June 30th - August 8th, 2014

• Orientation: Saturday, June 14 9am-3:30pm • Reunion / Video Release Party: Saturday, November 15 • BCAPteen runs concurrently with BCAP Summer Camp • Participants are expected to attend every day to earn their stipend

Time: 9am-3:30pm

• One-hour lunch break • Early drop-off 8-8:45am with a sibling in BCAP Summer Camp

Stipend: $300*

• Participants ages 14+ are eligible to earn a stipend totaling $300 contingent on excellent attendance. • Participants age 13 may participate in the program at no cost, but are not eligible for a stipend.

Location: BCAP Cultural Campus

• BCAPteen's Home Base is BPL Central Library's Info Commons Learning Lab, with rotating visits to our 5 other partner institutions: • • Brooklyn Children's Museum • • Prospect Park Zoo

Staff & Educators

BCAPteen is coordinated and supervised by our BCAP Summer Camp Directors . Daily activities are facilitated by two experienced, talented, and FUN educators who specialize in media & communications, and working with teens. Participants will also interact with experts at our 6 partner institutions, representing a variety of departments and career paths.

BCAP staff educators participate in a week of specialized training, including health & safety, positive community-building, bullying prevention, disability inclusion and special needs, teambuilding strategies, curriculum development, and more. All staff undergo background and reference checks, and a selective application process.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: o Please type or neatly print in the requested information on the following pages. o Application must be completed by the teen. o Complete applications are due no later than 5pm on April 1st, 2014. o You can email or mail the completed application to BPL Central Library using the contact information at the bottom of the page. o If mailing, please postmark by March 20th. o Keep a copy of your application for your records.

REFERENCES o Please list two references and their contact information on page 4. These may be a teacher, coach, employer, or other similar adult. (No family or friends!)

RESUME (optional) o Attach a copy of your résumé along with your application o This can include work and volunteer experience, special programs you have participated in, awards, etc.

CONFIRMATION: Once your application has been received, you will receive an email or phone confirmation. If you do not receive a confirmation, please call (718) 230-2753.

INTERVIEWS: Applicants will be notified via phone by April 7th whether you have been invited for an interview or declined. Interviews will take place on or around the week of spring break, April 14-22, at BPL Central Library. Up to 20 teens will be chosen to participate in the program.
