Martial Vivot Salon Pour Hommes For Immediate Release Contact: Christopher Nutter, Nutter Media Spring / Summer 2014 917.770.0350 / [email protected] Martial Vivot Salon Pour Hommes “Martial Vivot is the best in the city.” ~ GQ “Martial Vivot is the gentleman’s barber for many of the city’s most powerful.” ~ New York Times “A master class in the proper shave.” ~ Vanity Fair Best Men’s Salon / Best High End Men’s Haircut ~ New York Magazine “There is nothing like a Losi cut.” ~ T Style, The Moment Blog (Manhattan, NY): Launched in July 2008 by celebrated men’s stylist Martial Vivot, Salon Pour Hommes is the first men’s salon in New York City to have world-class stylists on staff, and to offer the same caliber of service to men the world’s most illustrious women enjoy at the city’s legendary unisex salons. Situated next to the MoMA, Manolo Blahnik and the Rockefeller Brownstones on tony West 54th street in Manhattan, and designed by Caroline Bailly and Ron Kopels using the natural elements of metal, wood and steel, Martial Vivot Salon Pour Hommes is an oasis of masculine, upscale sophistication. Unlike the city’s other men’s salons that rely exclusively on “masculine” trappings like pool tables or “metrosexual” services like waxing but have no significant stylists on staff, assembled at Salon Pour Hommes are the city’s leaders in the world of men’s hair: four-time New York magazine “Best of Beauty” winner Martial Vivot; legendary celebrity and editorial stylist Losi; Manhattan magazine’s “One-To-Watch” Victor Szeto; and Katy Walsh, Jérome Obry, and Daniel Urtiaga, the newest additions to the salon’s one-of-a-kind men’s styling team. These gurus of men’s grooming bring unparalleled expertise to Salon Pour Hommes. Collectively Martial, Losi, Victor, Jérome, Katy and Daniel offer decades of experience creating trends in men’s hair through the media (GQ, Esquire, Vanity Fair, BlackBook, Vogue); styling the hair of Hollywood’s (Matt Bomer, Rob Lowe, Benjamin Walker) and the music industry’s (David Byrne, Keith Richards, Mark Ronson) leading men; and dedicate it to the grooming needs of New York’s leading men. Salon Pour Hommes also offers The Green Room, an in-salon professional groomer service provided by Losi and professional make-up artist Katy Walsh (The Oprah Show, Entertainment Tonight) to give clients the same caliber of customized prep to go on camera that actors, models and celebrities receive. Speaking directly to what modern, savvy, and successful men want in a high-end salon, Martial Vivot Salon Pour Hommes provides men a place to have all of their grooming needs – haircuts, coloring, and straightening; brow tweezing; manicures; facial trims; face and head shaves; and on-camera prep services – attended to in one place, and by the experts; and gives men not just the attentiveness, talent and skill they seek in hair stylists today, but the privacy they desire as well. In Fall, 2013 Martial Vivot launched The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair, including Shampoo, Conditioner, Gel, Paste and Creme, available exclusively at the salon and at www.martialvivot.com. For Immediate Release Contact: Christopher Nutter, Nutter Media Spring / Summer 2014 917.770.0350 / [email protected] Martial Vivot Launches All-Natural, Universal Hair Type Grooming Line For Men As seen in: T Style, GQ, Esquire, Details, AskMen, Manhattan, Men’s Fitness, Departures, People, InStyle, and W. (Manhattan, NY): Since Martial Vivot opened Salon Pour Hommes in July 2008, he has set a new standard for men’s salons, creating the first in New York City to have world-class stylists on staff and to offer the same caliber of service to men the world’s most illustrious women enjoy at the city’s legendary unisex salons. In the last 5 years Martial Vivot has broken new ground in men’s grooming by taking the decades of experience he and his team have creating trends in men’s hair through the media (GQ, Esquire, Vanity Fair); and styling the hair of Hollywood’s leading men (Matt Bomer, Rob Lowe, Benjamin Walker); and making it available at a salon to New York’s leading men. In Fall, 2013, Martial Vivot set a new standard for men’s grooming once again with the launch of The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair, including Shampoo, Conditioner, Gel, Paste and Creme. Although discriminating men have a plethora of grooming products to choose from today, harsh chemicals found in most products – such as parabens, petrochemicals and sulfates – damage their hair and scalp. In fact, these chemicals lead to common issues such as dry, damaged, or lackluster hair; faded color; hair loss; dandruff; etc., which hobble even the best hair cut from the second they step from the shower. Selecting from and experimenting with seemingly unlimited product options for different kinds of hair adds unnecessary time and effort to the lives of busy, successful men, who have more important things to do than experiment with hair products. This is where The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair comes in. Combining wisdom gained from 25 years of experience listening to what men in his chair universally say they want with the latest technologies and R and D, Martial Vivot formulated The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair to solve all of these issues, while providing men what they really want: thicker, healthy hair with minimal products and minimal effort. All-natural, organic, plant-derived ingredients used across the product line – like aloe; sugar and coconut- derived cleansers; organic plant oils such as cannabis; vitamins; antioxidants; and amino acids and minerals – ensure healthy hair and scalp; encourage hair growth and manageability; help prevent dandruff and graying; moisturize, nourish, protect and repair; assist with color retention; and help with luster and shine …making hair styling easy. Understanding that in fact all hair types require the same essential ingredients to be healthy, The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair works universally for every type of hair – thick, thin, straightened, frizzy, curled, colored, graying, oily, dry, etc. Even if their hair or their treatments change over time, this universal formulation means they will never have to change products again. Never. And most important: they work. The Martial Vivot Shampoo, Conditioner, Gel, Paste and Creme meet the same standard he and his team at Salon Pour Hommes require for any product they use in the green room styling a celebrity before a TV appearance; styling a model’s hair backstage before a fashion show; or styling a mogul’s hair for a magazine shoot. Not a luxury, but a necessity, The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair is an essential grooming tool for the modern, sophisticated, successful gentleman of today. For Immediate Release Contact: Christopher Nutter, Nutter Media Spring / Summer 2014 917.770.0350 / [email protected] The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair Raison d’être Although it is becoming more widely understood that synthetic ingredients found in most hair products – such as paraben preservatives, sulfate cleansers, petrochemicals and artificial colors and fragrances – are bad for the health, they are also universally bad for the hair. In fact, these synthetic ingredients lead to common issues such as dry, damaged, weak, stressed or lackluster hair; unhealthy scalp and follicles; faded color; hair loss; lack of manageability; dandruff; free radical damage, etc. The right all-natural, organic ingredients in the right formulation developed using the latest R and D technologies are universally good for the hair: they eliminate both the common problems artificial ingredients cause, and – because all types of hair require the same essential ingredients to be healthy – they also eliminate the need for different products for different types of hair. This formulation, philosophy and approach allows The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair to deliver what busy, successful men universally tell Martial they want: thicker, healthier hair with minimal products and minimal effort. These powerful all-natural ingredients used across the product line – in the Shampoo, Conditioner, Gel, Paste and Creme – include: Organic Aloe: whereas most products on the shelves use water as an inexpensive filler and base – composing as much as 70% of the product – Martial Vivot expertly formulates his products using organic aloe as his base. Rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and proteins, the organic aloe base nourishes and hydrates the hair, promotes hair growth, and leaves hair with a smooth, lustrous finish. Sugar and coconut-derived cleaners: unlike sulfates and petroleum-derivatives, cleaners derived from sugar and coconut are mild, not irritating, and do not damage the hair. They provide a generous lather, and rinse out easily, preventing product build-up. Organic plant-oil blend: in lieu of petrochemicals, Martial Vivot has developed a proprietary blend of 11 plant- oils rich in essential fatty acids – including cannabis, shea butter, flax seed, jojoba, and argan oil – that penetrate the hair shaft to restore and replenish; condition and hydrate; and improve luster, shine and manageability. Vitamins and antioxidants: Vitamins A, C and E; a Vitamin B complex; and potent antioxidants such as CoQ10 energize the hair and the scalp, which encourages hair growth, fights free radicals, helps prevent graying, and balances sebum, resulting in thicker, fuller, healthier hair. Amino acids: a protein-rich amino acid complex – including bamboo and quinoa – are the building blocks of healthy hair. These amino acids naturally moisturize; help with color retention and luster; encourage scalp metabolism; and repair the hair shaft. Minerals: copper, magnesium and zinc energize the scalp, promote healthy hair growth, and prevent graying. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/VESTIL-Narrow-Mouth-Plastic-Bottle-3GFE4http://www.grainger For Immediate Release Contact: Christopher Nutter, Nutter Media Spring / Summer 2014 917.770.0350 / [email protected] The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair Voilà Because every type of hair requires the same ingredients to be healthy, The Martial Vivot Grooming Line For Hair is universally appropriate for all hair types.

  • White Collar Star Matt Bomer Comes Out
White Collar Star Matt Bomer Comes Out White Collar actor, Matt Bomer, finally came out as gay at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards this Saturday. After accepting the New Generation Arts and Activism Award for his work in the fight against HIV/AIDS, the actor made the announcement to the public. “I’d really especially like to thank my beautiful family. Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment,” he added, according to UsMagazine.com. Bomer’s partner is Simon Hall, who is a Slate PR publicist. What are the best ways to come clean about your sexuality to friends and family? Cupid’s Advice: The nuclear family is changing, and more people have the confidence to come out about their sexual orientation. Cupid has some tips to help you be honest with your friends and family: 1. Friends: Coming out to your friends first will be good practice for when you tell your family. You’ll get an assortment of reactions, and you’ll be able to identify your true friends. It will be easier to tell your family once you already have a support system behind you. 2. Be ready: If you have gay friends that have already come out, they may pressure you to hurry and do the same. Wait until you’re completely ready emotionally and mentally, so that the situation is handled the best it can be. 3. Confidence: Your biggest fear about coming out may be your friend’s and family’s reactions. If things take a turn for the worst, be patient and give them time to come to terms with the situation.

  • Learning from Other Movements: Gay Liberation and Recovery Advocacy
Hill, T. & White, W. (2015). Learning from other movements: Gay liberation and recovery advocacy. Posted at www.williamwhitepapers.com Learning from other Movements: Gay Liberation and Recovery Advocacy Tom Hill and William White1 Introduction For participants of the current recovery advocacy movement, there is much to learn from previous social movements. Lessons of considerable import can be gleaned from the movements that intersected in the 1960s, including the civil rights movement, the black power movement, the new left and anti-war movements, the women’s movement, and the gay liberation movement. While all of these are worthy of study, the gay liberation movement holds certain parallels, strategies, and lessons that may be of particular interest. This is due in large part to the societal myths and misunderstandings of both people who have experienced addiction and those with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. The stigma attached to these groups has often rendered them expendable and, as a result, has forced them into hiding their experiences and identities. Members of the gay community, most prominently Bayard Rustin, played critical roles in the civil rights movement and later drew upon the lessons of the civil rights movement in the same way that members of the recovery advocacy movement are now drawing upon their experience within earlier social movements. Because the societal stigma and discrimination targeting these two groups have been so severe, they share similarities in the early stages of building a movement of social justice and change. The gay liberation movement – now inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) lives and identities – currently has 45 years of organizing and movement-building experience compared to the new recovery advocacy movement that emerged in the late 1990s and was formally organized at the 2001 recovery summit in St.
