He replaced Jenny Vincent, who passed away suddenly in January after a brief battle with aggressive cancer. Chi led the Dinos to their first ever undefeated season in 2016. During that season, the Dinos women’s rugby team went on to win their first ever Canada West Championship, just seven seasons after their inauguration. In 2016, Calgary finished with a U SPORTS bronze medal, the best finish in program history. Chi’s rugby resume is extensive, replete with national and international experience as a player, coach, and administrator. He has been head coach of the Dinos men’s rugby club since 2006, winning four straight provincial university championships, after spending two seasons as an assistant. He played for the Dinos from 2001 to 2003 under the guidance of Canadian rugby great Dave Lougheed and has been a member of the executive board since 2001. Internationally, Chi was the head coach of Canada’s entry into the men’s FISU World University Rugby 7s Championships in both 2006 and 2008, adding the role of Team Administrator in 2006. He is a Regional Director for Rugby Canada’s U20 National Championship Committee and Vice President, Competitions and Senior Representative Programs for Rugby Alberta. Chi has an MBA, MSc, and BSc from the University of Calgary in addition to a BSc from McGill University. He is a certified NCCP Level III rugby coach and a Level I referee in Alberta. linebacker for the Dinos in the late 2000s. Prior to joining the Dinos, he coached alongside Simon with the Calgary Mavericks U20, and Alberta U19 programs. Originally from Calgary, he has a BCom. from the University of Victoria (2001), and an MSc from the University of Calgary (2013). He is a certified NCCP Level II rugby coach. 2018 DINOS WOMEN’S RUGBY MEDIA GUIDE DINOS COACHES RICHARD SMITH Assistant Coach - Attack Richard Smith became a member of the Dinos rugby coaching staff in 2012 after spending three years coaching the Calgary Canucks Rugby Club. He is a previous Welsh international scrum half and 13-year professional player in the PRO 12, English Premiership and European competitions, playing for Cardiff Blues and Sale Sharks amongst others from 1992 to 2005. Smith has a BSc in Economics and an MBA, from Swansea and Cardiff University respectively, and is a Chartered Surveyor. ELLEN MCGREGOR Assistant Coach - Skills Following a five-year playing career with the Dinos rugby team, Ellen McGregor made the transition to the sideline as an assistant coach. She was a member of the inaugural Dinos rugby team in Canada West under the late Jenny Vincent and was named a conference all-star that year. In addition to coaching the Dinos, McGregor was on the coaching staff for the Prairie Wolfpack, who went undefeated in the U20 Women’s division at the Canadian Rugby Championship in 2018. McGregor has a Bsc from the University of Calgary and is currently completing a BEd at UCalgary. LEAH CONFORTI Assistant Coach - Defence Leah Conforti played four season with the Dinos Rugby team from 2009 to 2014 and returned to the program in 2018 to coach the defence. She has coached the Notre Dame High School girl’s rugby program for the past 11 years in addition to coaching Calgary Mavericks and Alberta Wolfpack teams in both 7s and 15s over the past five years. Conforti has assisted at various U18 Canada Regional Camps hosted in Alberta while also coaching the Calgary Hornets Women’s First Division and Premier programs for the past three seasons. She is an NCCP Level 2 certified coach. Leah graduated from the University of Calgary with a BKin and BEd. She is currently a high school teacher and the Athletic Director at Notre Dame High School in Calgary. BREANNE MORGAN Assistant Coach - Skills Breanne Morgan wrapped up a five-year career with the Dinos rugby team last season, helping the team win back-to-back Canada West championships, and has now made the transition to the coaching staff. She is an NCCP Level 1 certified coach and in her spear time coaches the Western Canada High School women’s rugby team. One male and one female are then selected from each of the four U SPORTS conferences: Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA), Ontario University Athletics (OUA), Réseau du sport etudiant du Quebec (RSEQ), and Atlantic University Sport (AUS).
