The MultiAir system controls the intake of air into the engine directly as it enters the cylinders, based on actual power unit requirements. The results of this management system are truly revolutionary: systematic reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, increase in power and maximum torque, optimisation of driving performance. All of this is achieved with no inlet camshaft, just the simple but revolutionary hydraulic valve control. To optimise combustion EFFICIENCY Alfa MultiAir can immediately adopt DIFFERENT STRATEGIES according to the driving situation. Ignition or idling. Delayed opening of the valve at partial engine load. During acceleration. Earlier closing of the valve, torque at low revs and full load. Driving in the city. The 1.4 TURBO MULTIAIR engine was awarded the coveted International Best New Engine of 2010 Multiple valve opening during the same engine cycle, low torque and power. award in the 135 BHP and 170 BHP versions. Driving on the motorway. Full opening of the valve, request for maximum power. 14 – 15 How MultiAir technology works MultiAir technology allows the lift profi le of the valves to be modifi ed in response to the request for air from the engine. The results of this system are truly revolutionary: with the MultiAir system it is also possible to open the same valves twice during the same cycle, surpassing the structural limits of the mechanical camshafts. Different strategies can be employed to optimise the combustion effi ciency, according to the driving situation. A petrol engine with the fuel consumption and running costs of a diesel The TURBO TWINAIR combines MULTIAIR technology with an innovative TWO CYLINDER layout to achieve VERSATILITY. TwinAir interacts with Alfa D.N.A., allowing the driver to choose which of the engine’s three maximum fuel effi ciency: power, outstanding fl exibility and response when needed. driving modes to engage for their specifi c driving needs: Dynamic, Natural or All-weather Combined with START&STOP and SMART ALTERNATOR, TwinAir provides the lowest CO2 emissions COMFORT. The DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) device ensures the best driving comfort by eliminating values for city driving than any other petrol engine in its class. any vibration, with the smooth yet sporty sound of Alfa Romeo engines. 16 - 17 ADVANTAGES Optimising combustion makes it possible to achieve incredible results in terms JJTDTDMM-2-2 of consumption, emissions, acoustics and steering capability. 18 - 19 The second generation of MultiJet engines, a development of the Common Rail system, having made its debut on the MiTo. Service internals of 21,000 miles demonstrate the reliability of this class-leading technology. The 1.3 JTDM-2 85 bhp and 1.6 JTDM-2 120 bhp engines use special injectors which, courtesy of a balanced hydraulic servo valve, control the amount of diesel injected into the combustion chamber with a high degree of PRECISION. The result is a more RAPID and FLEXIBLE injection sequence compared to previous generation power units The MiTo also has another device on board for reducing fuel consumption and emissions, available on all engines: EECOCO START&STOP AS STANDARD; a device that turns off the engine whenever the vehicle is stationary and idling, then re-starts it automatically. This system can be deactivated at will by the driver, but SSOLUTIONSOLUTIONS when active achieves a noticeable reduction in fuel consumption, emissions and noise pollution. GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR – GSI: works in conjunction with Start&Stop and suggests when to shift to the gear best suited to optimise engine effi ciency and reduce fuel consumption by illuminating a light on the control panel. A simple step: just shift the selector near the gear lever. An advanced result: the dynamics of the whole car change. 20 - 21 . 3 DRIVING position settings, 3 HANDLING settings. OURS IS THE QUADRIFOGLIO VERDE. 1923. Driver Ugo Sivocci, the eternal second-place in circuit races, painted on to his Alfa Romeo RL a white square with a green cloverleaf: it was his lucky charm to power him through the Targa Florio. And sure enough, the success was immediate – at the end of the race Sivocci crossed the finish line an outright first. A few months later, Sivocci returned to race once more, but this time without his Clover- leaf and sadly, this was the race that lost him his life. From that moment, in memory of Sivocci, the Cloverleaf would be displayed on every Alfa Romeo competition vehicle. But the white square would become a triangle, to symbolise his absence. That’s how the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio Verde was born, the sign under which the greatest drivers of all time raced such as the legendary Tazio Nuvolari and Juan Manuel Fangio.

  • Brembo 'Easy Check' Innovation Makes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BEST EVER BREMBO PRESENCE AT NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW 22 Different Marques Showcase Brembo’s Original Equipment Success DETROIT, Jan. 16, 2010 – Confirming itself as a leading manufacturer in the Original Equipment business, Brembo brakes are fitted to almost one in six cars on display at this year’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), held in Detroit. Eighty percent of the Brembo-equipped cars on display at Detroit show are high- performance models; clearly confirming Brembo’s leading edge role in automotive brake technology. Brembo’s advanced technology is finding an increasingly appreciative audience among car manufacturers and not just the traditional European performance car makers. On the domestic side of the OE equation, American marques such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford and Tesla are among Brembo’s clients at Detroit, each with its own interpretation of high-performance motoring. Specifically, Brembo brakes are fitted to the Buick Regal GS, the Cadillac CTS-V coupe and XTS sedan, all three making their world debuts. In addition, the Chevrolet Camaro SS and Corvette ZR1, the Chrysler 300C and Dodge’s Challenger SRT8 and Viper Laguna Seca showcase Brembo, as well as the 2012 Ford Taurus SHO, Mustang GT 5.0 and Ford Racing Fiesta. Brembo is also featured on several US-based specialty vehicles, including three Tesla electrics and the Revenge Verde supercar, the only car fitted with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes at Detroit. Since 1961, Brembo has been acknowledged as a world leader in high-performance brakes so it’s no surprise that virtually every European manufacturer of high- performance vehicles chose Brembo for its brakes.
