Monsignor Andrzej Halemba served as Aid to the Church in Need projects coordinator for Asia-Africa, covering hot spots including Syria, Iraq and Eritrea – countries across the Middle East and parts of South Asia. Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Cardinal Raphael I Sako of Baghdad honoured the 65-year-old Pole with the title Chorbishop, equivalent to Monsignor in the Western (Latin) Church. I first met Owen on a Christian CND march to Molesworth in 1985. It was a great encouragement as a greenhorn peace campaigner about to head off to Rome to spend 6 years as a square peg in the round hole of seminary life to discover that there was a priest willing to spend Holy Week not in church but on the road, being Church and bringing Church to people with the most varied views and lifestyles.

CURRY’S SERMON AT THE ROYAL WEDDING SUMMED UP WHY I AM A CHRISTIAN Jon Kuhrt 19 May 2018 There has been an incredible reaction to Bishop Michael Curry’s sermon at the Royal Wedding today. Both the content and the manner of his talk broke the formality which so easily straight-jackets Anglican services and especially any religious events involving the Royalty. There was power, authority and a bold confidence in the way that Bishop Curry spoke. As the world listened to him, I realised he was summing up why I am a Christian. He spoke personally – so often, vicars, priests and ministers can lose people with religious jargon or abstract terms, but straightaway Rev Curry connected the theme of his talk to the experience of everyone listening:“There’s power – power in love. If you don’t believe me, think about a time when you first fell in love. The whole world seemed to centre around you and your beloved.” He spoke passionately – there was an urgency to his words as he spoke about a power (or fire) that was desperately needed if we are to heal the world we live in. The Parish Financial Statement and the simplified statement presented to the meeting, records all sources of income under its own title, this includes the income from the Solar Panels. In this way it is easy to locate a source and amount for the period required. John Fernee asked why the income differed for the hall and the presbytery during the same period.

Jeremiah 29.11 This paper builds on the work commissioned by Bp Edwin Regan to create a Pastoral plan (Put Out Into T he Deep) that takes the Diocese into a sustainable future. My approach may be different to his but I believe it is soundly rooted in the fact that at the centre of Catholic life i s the Eucharist; that is , the celebration each Lord’s Day of the Sacred Mysteries in the midst of the community of the faithful. Anything less is at best , second best. With lively and committed individual and community faith and a degree of reorganisation no Catholic person in the Diocese should have to settle for anything other than the best for the foreseeable future It is a sad fact that the Church in England and Wales has over the period of its modern history – the last 150 years, largely failed to gro w from within or by evangelisation of the communities among which it has been part. We are only were we are today, thankfully, by fact of waves of migration of Catholic people from other countries. Our Catholic communities have not grown from within, have not produced native vocation s to the priesthood and religious life in anything like sufficient numbers to maintain the parish structures that our forefathers have handed down to us.

Peter Brignall 3rd Bishop of Wrexham Cathedral of Our Lady of Sorrows 12 th September 2012 Archbishop George Stack During the retreat which precedes Episcopal ordination, the candidate becomes painfully aware of his unworthiness for the office to which he is called. He reads the scriptures, reflects on the teaching of the Church, and embraces the tradition. He realises that humanly speaking, this ministry does cannot depend on his gifts alone, but on the power and the grace of the Holy Spirit which breathes through the Body of Christ which is the Church. During his retreat, Bishop - Elect Peter may even have found himself in agreement with the words of Blessed Humbert of Roman (circa 1190-1277). Humbert was the 5th Master of the Dominican order elected in 1254. He remonstrated with his teacher St. Albert the Great who had been appointed a Bishop: “I would rather you were dead than a Bishop…..Why ruin your reputation and that of the Order by letting yourself be taken away from poverty and preaching? However troublesome you find the brethren, do not imagine that things will be better when you have the clergy and the secular powers to deal with…Better to lie in a coffin that sit in a Bishop’s chair!” 2 Peter’s missionary spirit took him away, not from the Dominicans but from the Diocese of Westminster to Wrexham in 1977. Cardinal Hume allowed him to leave on condition “that he didn’t take anyone else with him”. He didn’t take me with him from Westminster at that time, but thirty five years later I too followed the call of St.
