Each person in Scotland is represented by 8 MSPs – 1 constituency MSP and 7 regional MSPs. A region is a larger area which covers a number of constituencies. This Fact Sheet is divided into 2 parts. The first section, ‘MSPs by constituency’, lists the Scottish Parliament constituencies in alphabetical order. It includes the name and party of the MSP elected to represent each constituency and the corresponding region for each constituency. The second section, ‘MSPs by region’, lists the 8 political regions of Scotland in alphabetical order. It includes the name and party of the MSPs elected to represent each region.     Political Change and Scottish Nationalism in Dundee 1973-2012 Thomas A W Stewart PhD Thesis University of Edinburgh 2019 Abstract Prior to the 2014 independence referendum, the Scottish National Party’s strongest bastions of support were in rural areas. The sole exception was Dundee, where it has consistently enjoyed levels of support well ahead of the national average, first replacing the Conservatives as the city’s second party in the 1970s before overcoming Labour to become its leading force in the 2000s. Through this period it achieved Westminster representation between 1974 and 1987, and again since 2005, and had won both of its Scottish Parliamentary seats by 2007. This performance has been completely unmatched in any of the country’s other cities. Using a mixture of archival research, oral history interviews, the local press and memoires, this thesis seeks to explain the party’s record of success in Dundee. It will assess the extent to which the character of the city itself, its economy, demography, geography, history, and local media landscape, made Dundee especially prone to Nationalist politics. It will then address the more fundamental importance of the interaction of local political forces that were independent of the city’s nature through an examination of the ability of party machines, key individuals and political strategies to shape the city’s electoral landscape. The local SNP and its main rival throughout the period, the Labour Party, will be analysed in particular detail. The thesis will also take time to delve into the histories of the Conservatives, Liberals and Radical Left within the city and their influence on the fortunes of the SNP.

E IT ENACTED by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice B and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:— 1 Amendments to the Immigration Rules (1) The Immigration Rules, as laid before Parliament under section 3(2) of the Immigration Act 1971, are amended as follows. (2) In paragraphs 360 and 360C (right to request permission to take up employment) for “one year” substitute “six months”. 5 (3) Omit paragraphs 360A and 360D (which place restrictions on the employment that may be taken up). (4) After paragraph 360E insert— “360F In paragraphs 360 to 360E, the terms “asylum applicant” and “individual” mean— 10 (a) a principal applicant, or (b) an adult dependant of a principal applicant in accordance with paragraph 349.” 2 Extent, commencement and short title (1) This Act extends to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. 15 (2) This Act comes into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the day on which it is passed. I declare that my thesis consists of 64,174 words. 2 Abstract This thesis consists of three papers that make a distinctive contribution to the study of decentralization in the areas of fiscal policy, legislative behavior and government responsiveness. The first paper revisits theories of substate tax policy that usually draw on evidence from stable federations. Investigating fiscal decentralization reforms in four European countries subject to intense center-periphery territorial competition, I find that incentives operating in such systems generate a paradox whereby prominent autonomist regions are among the least likely to make proactive changes after decentralization. I theorize this as the best response to central government attempts at blame-shifting by locking regions into making controversial policy changes.

They understood, however, that a decision could not be made today because of the deterioration in the building’s condition and a shortfall in capital funding. The deputation sought reassurance from the Council that: all parties supported the establishment of a dedicated Gaelic primary school in Edinburgh; the current problems with the Bonnington building were only a temporary setback for the provision of a dedicated Gaelic primary school; and the Gaelic or English stream intakes at Tollcross Primary School would not be affected.

In the past hour, I have received news that they will shortly be joined by a family of five Glasgow children who were taken to Dungavel yesterday after school—five Muslim children, innocent of any crime, but spending Eid in prison. What progress has the Scottish Government made with the alternatives to detention pilots? Will the Scottish Government continue to support the consensus throughout Scotland that the detention of such children is morally wrong? Reply from the First Minister: I am aware of the circumstances in the first of the cases that Anne McLaughlin mentions.

Chair’s Report Oral The Chair welcomed: • Alice Mayne and Martyn Wade to their first official committee meeting • Nicholas Meny – Grants officer • Audrey Dunn following a period of maternity leave • Bet McLeod, Grants Assistant and • Amy Koyman – intern from Leonard Cheshire Disability Charity The Chair congratulated: • and bid farewell to Amy Eastwood • Morven Mercer , who had been promoted to Acting Grants Officer The Chair announced: • the appointment of a new Chair for Wales, Baroness Kay Andrews. • The arrival of Ros Kerslake, new Chief Executive, HLF, on 4 July • Alex Patterson, had been appointed as Chief Executive, Historic Environment Scotland; currently Chief Executive Officer, Highlands and Islands Enterprise • welcomed the reappointment of Fiona Hyslop MSP as Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs in the Scottish Government noting the addition of Tourism to her portfolio and noted other cabinet secretary and ministerial appointments relevant to HLF namely Roseanna Cunningham (Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform), Fergus Ewing (Rural Economy and Connectivity), Angela Constance (Communities, Social Security and Equalities), Jamie Hepburn (Employability and Training) • noted that HLF would write to relevant ministers and seek meetings. Members commented that John Swinney MSP’s remit as Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills covered youth employment and might therefore be a useful contact for HLF.
